And you think we have problems
Some think that we have too much rp. Well, our problems sound tame compared to what's happening in CFC. Just look at this thread....
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showth...threadid=40195
Ouch! Fortunately, our rp never reached such rediculous excess as to threaten the DG itself, but sometimes I wonder about our abolitionists.
Other folks complain about our turnchats. Yes they are slow, cumbersome, and an absolute blast to lurk!
Now in another thread from the same competing forum...
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showth...threadid=40194
Holy tech trees Batman! Atleast our turnchats complete a whole FM trade cycle in one sitting. Perhaps Togas could show them the way.
It is sad to see an otherwise grand forum sink to such levels.
I remain,
proud to be an Apolytonian.

Actually, I think something like that would be fun (not the excessive roleplay - the physical location stuff and everything), AS LONG AS it didn't get out of hand. It would be great, though, if it actually influenced decision within the game.

skywalker,
CFC roleplays that their religion is the "Jedi" religion. Their embassy here a while back was nothing more than 2 members of their jedi order trying to get recruits. When they learned of the GREAT BANANA, they immediately called it a Sith plot and starting going on and on about how they would have to fight back the sith, blah, blah, blah.
In short, they're jedi fanatics... They would not listen to reason when it came to the benevolence and mercy of the Great Banana.
As such, I established Palpatine as my avatar and "CFC Delenda Est!" (in homage to Cato the Elder's "Carthago Delenda Est!", meaning "Carthage must be destroyed!") in anticipation of the day we may face these jedi fanatics in the multi-site demo game.
CFC Delenda Est!

Even better - in an MP demogame, if the city you're in gets captured by another civ, you go to that other civ!

I guess it is time for me to weigh in again and try to unhijack this thread. Most of you grasped the surface meaning that we should be happy with our lot, because no matter how badly we do there will be a worse situation out there somewhere on the web. And the reverse is also true. No matter how well we do, there will be other players doing better.
So what was I really trying to say?
Excessive roleplaying can be hazardous to your game.
Do I rp? Absolutely! But I do it by building a story that is somewhat game related to make a policy point or three. Consider this thread...
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=70039
Was this an attempt to formulate policy? Yes! Was it successful? No. To this day (turn) Antioch has still not completed it's factory. If the policy indicated in the thread were followed Antioch would be working on it's 6th post Factory major warpiece, and we could have safely continued our attack on Stuttgart in 1290 ab. What a difference 5 Cavalry units and the certainty of resupply make.
We continue to have a GROSS surplus of workers both foreign and domestic and our tile development is far ahead of our pop. But we are making progress. People besides me are now talking about uniting our native sons with the cities by thge hills. Of course there is the little problem about a hospital shortage, but progress none the less.
And that is the real difference between us and CFC. They remain 'active' in the DG to collect RPG gold, while we rp directly in our DG forum to enrich the game.
I guess I should close by thanking Ming for not creating a plethora of subforums to divide us.

These fanatics have no support for the Great Bananna, they call it a Sith Plot, hmmmm, I'm afriad I feel that members of the ARMS party should go over to that forum and teach them a lesson, no such blasphemy shall go unanswered

it all comes down to the law of economics , some seem to forget that , ......

Btw, Nolan, ARMS is a non-political organisation. The actual party is FEAR.
ARMS = Apolyton Religious Movement something
FEAR = Far-Extremist Apolytonian Right

Post Whoring.
Well, while CFC may be having roll playing issues, we definitely have post whoring issues! Seeing how that is what this thread has turned into, allow me to indulge: Would it be considered blasphemous to admit I like strawberries?
