hmm, seeing as I only played one of those, I'll have to vote for that one.
edit: note: I could vote other, but I think PTW is the only strategy game I have bought last years. I do play SMAC pbem's still. The only other games I have been playing are games like Sim Golf, and RPG's such as baldur's gate, planescape: torment, Morrowind, and Neverwinter Nights.

wtf is Space Rangers?
The best is either Warcraft 3 or Age of Mythology, although some people like Medieval Total War too.

It's a toss-up between Warlords Battlecry II and Hearts of Iron. IMHO, Hearts of Iron still needs about two patches, so I am going with Warlords Battlecry II.
I haven't played Civ3, HoMM4, or Space Rangers and Warcraft III is only better than Battlecry II (or Total Annihilation for that matter) graphicswise.

All these games should clearly be in the poll.

I didn't buy any game that came out in 2002. Wasn't sufficiently impressed by any of 'em.

My single-player side says AoW2; my multiplayer and plot-sensitive side says WC3.

Best strategy for 2002? Don't buy games when they first come out, wait for the bugs to be fixed first and then buy the game in 2003...that brings us to the best 2003 strategy: buy those 2002 games/

Lol, I hear you having suffered with Medieval Total War and Civ3 out of the box. Warcraft3 and AOM were fine out of the box though.

During the last year, not many strategy games has been released, and none which are good enough to get my vote...
Of the poll options, I have only played PTW and War3:
War3: Not enough strategy, to deserve the strategy award
PTW: Too many bugs, to derserve to get an award...

Banana.
I didn't care for any of them. This a poor year for Stat games this year. Just MHO.

Medieval Total War is my pick for best of the year, with Warcraft 3 a close second. And the only bug I experienced with Total War out of the box was a dialogue box mistake when a tier three ship sinks.
I've probably put more time into total war than any game since Civ2. Though it still doesn't even remotely approach that level.

SP was ok, but still quite buggy till the first patch. MP was totally unplayable..........now it is pretty much unplayable.

I forgot about MTW. That did catch my attention, but by then I was working job #2 and had no time for Apolyton, Civ2, and "new game to be named."

Oh. Well, you're probably right then. I didn't (and still haven't) played any multiplayer. I hate gamespy arcade with a passion and refuse to have anything to do with those buggers and their trashy software. So I never even tried to play multi with medieval. Computer is an idiot, but I still have fun.

Age of Mythology.
I still love Civ 3, but PTW isn't all that great when I treat is an expansion - I should expect something more than new civs with same traits and a screwed up multiplaying mode.

Medieval Total War SP - i think the atmosphere just about made up for the bugs and gave me some hours of fun untill the patch - now it gives me more fun.
