Hmm, that was mis-timed. This post was supposed to be the first post on page 3 (assuming 20 per page).
But while I have this post, I may as well use it.

Yeah he's almost out of ideas now........though *muses thoughtfully* there might be mileage in a favourite game for each genre poll.

Does one have to have actually purchased/played all of their picks? I'd vote for EU2 as well but I just don't have it yet.
In any case: Morrowind: 20 (Take that Civ3! )
Hearts of Iron: 20
Diablo2/Lod+Mods: 15
Dungeon Siege: 5

Purchased no, but playing the game would seem to help with rating it.

Well... I voted for Settlers4, but I don't have the game (Because it's only avaliable in danish... ), but I know that I would have loved the game (I played the warez version for a while, but I wanted to play online, which I couldn't with the warez version... and I would NEVER buy a game, that has been translated to danish and is only avaliable in danish...

Me neither
Still think that ceasar 3 is the best in that genre though...

You don't have to own the game, or have even played it so long as you have sufficient reason for voting for it (either by playing the prequal, or watching a friend play it, for example). It would help to have actually played the game, however.
List updated.

I would probably hate them if I knew what they were. RPG's are usually not my thing, though Baldur's gate was ok.

Heh, I know that I was the one suggesting it could make sense to limit such polls to a 2-years period, or it wouldn't have made sense to run one every year...
This proves if needed that I truly always speak keeping in mind common sense and the community, and not in my own personal egoistic interest....
...as I have very little to contribute to a poll like this!
Indeed, I always keep playing the same kind of games, and when I found one I like that is not an adventure (that is, it's a TBS), I kleep playing it for years. I'm still mainly playing SMAC 4 years after its release.
And I now end up to get games from the bargain bins, which are too old to qualify for such poll's timeframe...
Let's see, from the gonegold lists, I might have hard times to even fill a list of the games I *bought* (or "procured"), leave alone I've *played*...
2001
Tropico (took the tutor, but didn't hook me, thought it was just a hyped variant of Settlers and left it there)
Merchant Prince II (what a RIPOFF - it's just a Win re-release of Machiavelli!)
MystIII - Exile (my favorite series - gave it a first browse, seems lovely but demanding as usual - wanted to properly dedicate me to it full-time, and didn't find the time yet- 1st on my playnext list)
Trade Empires (played the turtor: lovely! played 1st campaign: very entertaining and realistic economic/market model. Played next: began to show some weariness... didn't take it up again...)
CivIII (no comment)
2002
AoW2 (bought it "for the future"... I don't think I even installed it yet)
Wow! 6 games, 1 not installed, 4 just got a look at them for various reasons, 1 no comment... Does this entitle me to cast a vote for the 2001/02 ACS game???
IN CASE you don't reject me, I'd go with:
18 MystIII - Exile It seems to keep all the promises, but I reserve a 20 for Riven, and from 1st look and game forum reviews the enigmas here seem to be just slightly less difficult and intriguing
17 Merchant Prince II IF you already have Machiavelli I'd say don't buy it as it's just a porting of that DOS game under Windows, otherwise for that same reason as Machiavelli was one of my favorites this one deserves a good rating too. Despite, imho, they made the graphics and the interface worse (!)
14 Trade Empires the fact that I wasn't compelled to play it past the frist campaingns should tell something, apart that my gaming carnet was already busy. I liked the game mechanics a lot tho.
The other two I didn't end to actually play them.
And the no comment one, I alas spent a couple of months playing it...
Don't need to inform me of the points I didn't spend yet: I won't use them anyway, as I haven't got or played any other game qualifying for this poll.
I would give them NEGATIVE to the no comment one, if only this poll would allow for it.

BTW, as the poll spans over two years, it would be nice to add a year column, if not even the month when a game was published according to gonegold (the day would be too dispersive and confusing imho)
