PBEM with a twist (another one)
This time, the twist is not related to scenario's, but to which civ you play :
You do not choose your own civ, someone else does.
In other words,
Player 1 chooses a civ for player 2.
Player 2 chooses a civ for player 3.
...
Player z chooses a civ for player 1.
What do you say ?
By the way, Dissident will be moderator, but he does not know it yet.

I say it sounds like fun, count me in! We are likely to see tons of crappy civs in this game... I would personally be tempted to try playing the Koreans or the English for this game...
My email is vondrack@jimaz.cz. The only thing I'd really dislike would be Accelerated Production and/or having some victory conditions switched off, otherwise, I would be happy to play just about anything you can come up with - I assume standard rules plus mostly random map, right?

Count me in, too. But only if you start in a week, not earlier.
The worst civs ever in a single game

Ok - I am interested ....
Sounds fun to me
How do you get around the fact everyone will give each other the English ???
name@optusnet.com.au name = hot_enamel
I am GMT+10 when you work out the order of play.

Oh, I forgot to mention I was GMT+1.
As for the "everybody English" problem, I suggest that players assign civs to others in the same order they posted in this thread, even if they are not going to be "adjacent" players once the game starts (as I suppose we will make the playing order based upon timezones). Flandrien assigns a civ to Dissident, Dissident to alva, alva to me etc.
Are we 7 already? Was alva saying "I am in" or just fooling around?
BTW, alva and Tiberius seem to be extremely experienced in taking part in PBEM games, just have a look at their gigantic 400-post "PBEM, Anyone?" thread.
j/k, guys... but I do hope this game will not be that cursed!
EDIT: Ah, crossposting with alva. Sounds like he's in...

 @ Tibi
BTW, an idea crossed my mind... basing the playing order on the timezones may not be the best solution. Would everybody care to state what periods of day he is able to play his turns? Adjusting all of them to GMT and sorting them to maximize the smoothness may yield better results than simply using timezones - as some people can play in the morning, others in the evening, which shifts the "effective" timezone a lot.
For me, the "time window" is basically 8am to 10pm GMT (sometimes as late as 2-3am GMT though...). Ideally, 8am to 9am, as that's when I wake up and start doing things almost every day. Later times are okay on 90% of days, but not every single day...

My "time window" would be:
5 pm - 9 pm GMT
I don't guarantee however that if I get the savegame at 9pm GMT (11pm my time) I will play it that night. I have to sleep, you know ...

Which means that the last who signed in will have the best team. Thanks God I didn't see this thread earlier

ohh, I'm not in..
I was just
1. merely fooling aroud
2. stating that the English in MP (minimum standard map) are very underestimated.
You have enough players as it stands, dont you
I will be keeping an eye on it though...

E-mail CerberusIVciv3 at aol.com
I'm on GMT and can play between 1900 and 2200.
I count 5 players - Flandrien, Vondrack, Cerberus, Hot_Enamel and Tiberius? Assuming Dissident is moderating only?
Does anyone have thoughts on worst civs other than the Koreans and English?

Why am I listed with a "?" sign? I wasn't the last who subscribed. Or is it because I want a week delay? If so, no problem, start without me. I'm just curious what civ I could possibly get

don't assign a civ to me. I'll be moderating and not playing. I look forward to seeing the final lineup though. could be interesting.
And America is another crappy civ don't forget them. Their uu come so late... you know the deal.

Apologies, the "?" was about the total of five, not about you Tiberias. (I was just trying to see if I could add up correctly!)

I will let Dissident decide in which order players will get to choose a civ, but my suggestion would also be first post = first serve.
By the way, America is a VERY crappy civ.
If anyone would assign it to me, I would be very disappointed.

OK - My best play times are between 6.00pm and 12.00 midnight....(Australian Time = GMT +10)
Therefore..that equals
8.00am - 2.00pm GMT
Is that right ???
Oh yeah ...
As for Civs, I really hate the Chinese.
So dont give them to me

I like this idea. I'm in if there is room.
The worst civ - bring it on!
(And you know - I once played the English and won.)

OK I'm not sure who all is playing. We'll let Flandrien decide how many people are playing.
Once that is finalized we can post a list here. And I will randomly decide the order. That seems fairest.

Good! May I ask BetaHound and Flandrien to post their "time windows", i.e. times when they are most likely to be able to play their turns? Just use your local times and add your timezone, I will work it out and put together some chart to determine the optimal playing order.
Looking forward to the game! I just hope that as a bonus to a crappy civ, I will get a crappy starting location, too!
Note my correct handle, please, it is vondrack

18:00-23:00 my time. Which is GMT-5.
Therefore 23:00 -04:00 GMT.
I also check e-mail before leaving for work. If the game is in my e-mail before 6am my time (11:00 GMT) I can play it and have it out before 7. (12:00GMT). But I would prefer the evening.
Whichever works best for the flow of the game.
