Hello my name is [censored]

Your scenario for civilization two has caught my attention (WWI) and I would like to download it and try my hand at it.

Unfortunately my computer or my computer skills are not up to the task of downloading. I was wondering if you can please give me some simple step-by-step instructions on how to download and then reopened the program. I see to be able to download the information but not able to reopen the scenario program in the game.

I appreciate any help you can send me
This reads like a spam message, but there is no viral attachment and I don't think they've reached this level of customisation yet.

It seems as though Jay Bee has taken down my abomination of a WWI scenario, so [censored] most likely stumbled onto this site of mine.

I don't know if I should tell him to go download a good scenario somewhere in the help message that I am bound to send sometime soon or just give standard winzipping instructions.

P.S. Who names their kid [censored]? Seriously, people.

Sorry, my memory is going already. Who are you again?

I always liked it, you know.

Why?

Actually, I understand why. The problem lies in that I was this WWI scenario was the only one of the ones that I've released that was intended to be serious and realistic. Unfortunately, I don't think it's anywhere near as close to that goal as even the Microprose scenario.

You like it for the reasons that I think it's a failure.

St Leo:

Nope, I liked the scen cos it was fun. Some very pretentious and pompous WW# scenarios don't come anywhere closer.

I've gotten several emails similar to that about my scenarios - it seems that lots of people don't know how to operate WinZip and/or how to unzip a scenario so that Civ2 can load it properly.

1. You need to download and install a utility that can decompress ZIP files. http://winzip.com/ is the world standard; it's shareware, but you can use it freely for an indefinite period of time as long as you click through a nag dialogue every time you open it.

2. You need to download my scenario and open the zip file with WinZip.

3. I am assuming that you are using the classic WinZip inteface.

4. Hit the extract button without selecting any files (or selecting them all).

5. Select the scenario directory in your civ2 directory. It's C:\games\CIV2\SCENARIO on my computer, but I think the default is C:\MPS\CIV2\SCENARIO or C:\Program Files\civ2mge\scenario.

6. Append this path with \leowwi so that it says C:\games\CIV2\SCENARIO\leowwi. Clicking OK will create a leowwi subdirectory and unzip the scenario to it.

7. Open Civ2 (MGE can open FW, CiC, and 2.42 scenarios; FW can open CiC and 2.42 scenarios).

8. Navigate to the leowwi directory, open it, and open the scn scenario file.

The above assumes some familiarity with computers. Feel free to email me again if it's too unclear. Note that I am not overly fond of my old WWI scenario and would rather you experiment with scenarios available at sites like http://spanish.apolyton.net/ .

Thank you for replying so promptly to my e-mail

I was able to use the winzip that you recommended to open the files.

I am able to view the downloaded scenarios in the window where the two scenarios of Roman World War II are located that come with the original version of civilization II. Unfortunately when I click on the downloaded new scenarios to computer gives me a message "failed to load game: file is not a saved game" if you could please give me some more advice I would much appreciated I feel I so close but yet so far.

A much appreciated [censored] from Ohio

The problem probably lies in that you only have the original version (2.42) version of Civilization II. Two expansion packs (FW being the important one) and two repackagings (the earlier MGE being the important one) have been released since then.

1. If you've unzipped the scenario to the root civ2 directory and not into its own subdirectory (as your message seems to indicate), some key files may have been overwritten (translation: can you still start normal random map games?). Should that be the case, reinstalling civ2 into the same directory again will restore them without doing anything to your savegames.

2. There is an underground update to FW/MGE available at http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2cedric.shtml . Microprose has effectively gone out of business and you can't buy FW anywhere (save, perhaps, on ebay), so make your own decisions. I've used the MGE update myself and it worked fine.

There was the classic e-mail I had a couple of years back asking me what program I used to make scenarios and where could [he] download it.

Happy new year, fellas

I recommend using Shroedinger's solution to this age-old problem. Place your computer in a black box. As long as you can't see it, your computer will be both on and off. This allows you to use it while making Windows think that it's continuously being rebooted and prevent it from crashing.

Heh, I've gotten that email as well, quite possibly from the same guy

Another guy kept asking me for the adress of DV's webpage. I must have sent it to him about half a dozen times before he saved it and visited the site.

Now you're amalgamating both Schroedinger and Heisenberg.
I must say I'm rather impressed that somebody's finally managed to prevent windows from crashing though.

What's a webpage?

In the the Khmer state, spider silk was used to make paper. Leafs of such paper are referred to as "webpages".

St. Leo I've to say you're very creative and it looks like there isn't a silly question to which you couldn't find and even sillier answer

Let's open a new thread named:
"Ask St. Leo questions"

and here people could ask you things which bothered them their whole life and you could solve problems and mysteries of the world.
