It *should* work. He should try closing down all programs (Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up a list of running programs, close all except Explorer... At least, that's what it is on Win98 ) before starting the setup.

Setup crashes? Wow that has to suck. Worked fine when I installed it on XP home. Like Mercator said close all nonessential programs and also have him install WinG first.

I don't think XP is the problem. I've been playing everyday for a year with no problems.
If you have done everything else and it's a new box, defrag might help.

I've also loaded it on XP with no problems. Perhaps you should have a word with that nice Mr Gates.

I have them all 2.42 -- MGE running under XP pro at work and 2.42 running under XP Home on my daughter's laptop - there is only one problem - when I put a caravan into a WoW I don't get the message about so many more needed...

What!? That's illegal. A game may only be installed on one machine, and if on others, only when you'll never use both at the same time (e.g. home/laptop).
I suggest you ban yourself for such a thoughtless idea.
Unless, of course, you don't use it yourself anymore...

Yep, I've installed MGE on darn near every Win operating system, including XP, without any problems.
