But there were people who were more likely to have it better than others in all cases.

Given the notion that I remain in the same general category, the only one of these places were by being what i am, I would be sentenced to die is Cambodia (an intelectual) then I would chose it. In most of the others, I would either be relatively immune to presecution, or with small amounts of lying and trickery stay alive, obviously still a chance to die, but I prefer odds better than a 1 in 1 chance of death.

Well, not everyone... But mormoms are pretty harmless compare to some of the religious zealots in the Bush-administration. Hell, if John Ashcroft had been a muslim he´d been in Hamas or Islamic Jihad...

being white and protestant i'd actually be alright in germany, turkey and a few others.
worst is a tough choice, soviet russia in any period wouldn't be much fun and jap occupied china would be hell on earth for an englishman. i think overall though cambodia would have to top the list of awfulness.

Among the choices not mentioned: The West Bank or the the Gaza Strip, present day. Or for that matter downtown Tel Aviv. I suppose if you get blown to bits it doesn´t matter if it´s the IDF or Hamas that does it...
Nice avatar btw, Azazel Gives a whole new meaning to "McMurder"

Oh, but it's Ironic. I hate McDonald's. Their food is expensive, in comparison to other junk food restraunts. I haven't eated in a McDonald's for around 3 years now. But I have no love for the animal liberationists either. They're deluded *******s, together with the extreme enviromentalist types.
Living in the Gaza strip or Israel is by far not the worst places on earth. We have it great, and even they are living la vida loca comparing to most of the people on earth. Fact is, that it is not very popular to criticize the muslims in the extreme left. Let's face it, the extreme left has adopted the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" policy against the US, and keeps blindly following it. I will concentrate on the absurdness of the left's concentration on the ME crisis, and Israel's mistreatment of the palestinians by Israel.
( it exists. However, I know the story inside out. One of my friends has shot an innocent civilian during cerfew, wounding him, Because he refused to stop, and started running towards the soldiers. He participated in gunfights, and had his close friend wounded badly by palestinians. I also know that the terrorists recruit female suicide bombers by raping them, and telling them, that they have no choice, but to blow up themselves, or they'll tell her family, that will "take care of her".)
For example: there is a conflict in southern Sudan. a muslim "arab" (they're mostly nubian really, but consider themselves arab ) government is persecuting the christian and pagan tribes of the south. MORE THAN ONE MILLION PEOPLE WERE KILLED, and that is in military actions only, not to consider the forced famine, that was brought on the tribes of the south, by the government, that number is about ten times as much as the number of people that were killed in the entire Israeli-arab conflict, that lasted for much longer. When was the last time that you've heard a peep about it in the far-left press? You'll never hear about it. Muslims are good friends bashing the US together with us, and besides, the CIA and the Mossad are helping those rebels. There MUST be something wrong about them, right?
I'd choose gaza strip as a palestinian every day over Nazi Germany as a jew. I'd choose the Gaza strip over Somalia. I'd choose the Gaza strip over the 90s Afghanistan.

OK.
The problem is I am a Troskyist, educated, athest who enjoys interllectual freedoms, and is quite quick to complain. Most of the options would of made me dead (or in a gulag) quite quickly.
Ill have to vote - Cambodia.
But I would of liked to live in
Russia, 1917-1922,
even just for an educational point of view. (It is proberly the only place I'd suvive with all my limbs intact)
but what was so bad about Turkey, 1915-1920?

it wasn't too hot to be greek there either, especially after the greeks invaded in 1919...
still since most of us aren't greek, kurdish or armenian, living there wouldn't be bad at all.
