Another classic is obviously Nirvana - Nevermind (though the greatest hits album is fine too).

They are pretty much my favourite group, if I had to say one.

The Doors kick ass

Thanks all for the suggestions!

Hmm, I feel a bit left out with everyone else suggesting fav rock songs. Here's the kind of stuff I like for meaty good rockin:
Jimi Hendrix - Voodo Chile, Crosstown Traffic, All Along the Watchtower.... I may as well just copy out track lists, the man is god.
Nirvana - Very Ape, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, I Hate Myself And I Want To Die, Verse Corus Verse, and countless others.
Pixies - Tame, Bone Machine, Break My Body, Levitate Me
Manic Street Preachers - You Love Us,
Of Walking Abortion, Mausoleum
Those would be the all time greats for me, but there are countless other
[Edit:]
Not to forget Sonic Youth! Why has no-one mentioned them yet!

Surfer Rosa is my favourite, and has the hardest songs as well as most punky, though Doolittle is also excellent, though probably mellower and is prefered by many a Pixies-lover.

And Shellac! How could I forget! Pretty much everything they've done rocks, and rocks like a mother. That is a mother that rocks very very well.

Songs that Rock?
How about something by the Stone Temple Pilots? Or perhaps the Rolling Stones. Personally, I like Queens of the Stone Age best...

The Cure does rock.
I would go so far as to say that Helter Skelter may be the single most rocking song ever created, in terms of pure adrenaline and energy (is there a difference between the two?).

I just listened to Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and after a few seconds I realised I knew the song already, except I didn't know it was Led Zep's, nor did I know the title...
I rarely listen to the radio, but when I do I listen to a Dutch radio station called "Arrow Classic Rock" (also available as webcast ), so I've heard Babe I'm Gonna Leave You plenty of times.

I have to say the Cure appearance at Roskilde 2001 was the most boring concert I've ever been to. That or Tool at the same festival, but I left that after one song and some shouted abuse.
"Do-Re-Mi" by The Mighty Vikings is a brilliant pep-up song, especially considering how bad the original was.

Some very good songs already mentioned Some that I missed (or didn´t see)
Child in time - Deep Purple The version from "Live in Japan rocks ass! Blackmore´s guitar, Paice´s drums, Lord´s hammond, Glover´s bass and on top of all this Gillan´s shrieking voice. Oh, man. If you´re in the mood this is the best song ever made.
Lazy is my other favourite song by DP. The album version from "Machine Head" is awesome!
Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Cross Eyed Mary - Jethro Tull. Kick ass songs from Tull at the height of their career.
Silver Machine, Master of the Universe, Seven by seven, High Rise, Reefer Madness, etc... by Hawkwind. Too spaced out for some but I love their 70´s stuff.
Same goes for Gong - check out the Radio Gnome album trilogy. Consisting of the albums "Flying Teapot, "Angel´s egg" and "You" they tell in comic allegory the story of Zero the Hero and the Pot Head Pixies, the Octave Doctors and Radio Gnome Invisible (the Brain to Brain telepathic communication sytem) which along with other coloful characters and situations form the basic storyline. Allthough you can listen to these albums with a clear mind, some pot makes a whole lot of difference It´s like listening to Pink Floyd´s "A saucerful of secrets", it´s two VERY different songs depending on wether you´re stoned or not...
But back to the musical suggestions:
The entire first five Black Sabbath albums.
Break on through, Strange Days, The End, People are strange, Queen of the highway, Waiting for the sun, Riders of the storm, etc - Doors
Rainbow´s first three albums (Richie Blackmore´s Rainbow, Rainbow rising and Long Live Rock´n Roll ) were quite good. Down to Earth is also pretty decent.
On the harder side we have for instance Metallicas first five albums, there´s very few bad songs here. Even if they started to slip into utter boredome on the Black Album
Judas Priest - the British Steel, Screaming for Vengenance and Defenders of the Faith albums. Three albums that are among the very best ever made in HM.
Iron Maiden - Prowler, Run to the hills, Children of the damned, The number of the beast, The trooper, Hallowed be thy name, Iron Maiden, Aces High, Two minutes to midnight, Phantom of the opera ...well the whole Live after Death album basically + Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son...
Gary Moore - Hiroshima, Nuclear attack, Over the hills and fare away, Out in the fields, Still got the blues, Cold day in hell
Helloween - I want out, Eagle fly free, Dr Stein, Salvation, Sole survivor, I´m alive, If I could fly Deutsche pumpkin metal!
Everything by Hammerfall - Swedish power metal gods!
Anthrax - Pipeline (an old ´60s cover), I am the law, Bring the noise (with Public Enemy), Antisocial, Panic, Indians, etc.
Pretty Maids - the albums Red, Hot and Heavy and Future World.
Pantera - Strenght beyond strenght, I´m broken, Walk, F*cking Hostile, Rise
Sepultura - the Chaos AD album. Their best!
Nailbomb - Point Blank. Awesome one shot side project from Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Alex Newport from Fudge Tunnel
Damn that was a long post. Better end here, I´m sure I forgot something but what the hell, there´s more than enough here already... :wipes brow:

I would have mentioned child in time, which is easily my most favourite deep purple song, but it doesn't rock as much as some of the others because it starts out slow.
and don't forget bungle in the jungle from Jethro Tull

holy cow I have found another Helloween fan
The Keeper of the Seven Keys part I album is their best. Whatever you do don't listen to their new stuff. They went pop or something.
Songs I like from them a lot. Future world, Ride the Sky, Helloween, I want out, A Tale that wasn't right, I'm Alive, Twighlight of the gods, save us, keeper of the seven keys, and eagle fly free.

Actually, I listened to a few songs from their latest album "The Dark Ride" It sounded quite good. More power metal then Keeper, but still damn good. If they played pop between Master of the Rings and The Dark Ride I wouldn´t know. I mostly listened to ´60s and ´70s rock back then...
