I like it. Nothing spectacular, but I like it.
But they can do better than that.

It's an improvement over Civ3, but I think it still has a long way to go. I'd buy it just to stay in the "upgrade path" and be able to receive new patches and such, but it's really only good for me as a single-player game right now. I don't think it's a great value as a multiplayer game.

As a single-player experience, it's a good add-on. Only a few new units and enhancements, but overall they're extremly well matched within the classic Civ III's engine. I like it now, the AI is smarter also especially on huge maps - definitely the hardest TBS/empire-building game ever made. Before classic 1.29f patch, I was able to win regularly hybrid builder games at Monarch. With 1.14 PTW, I'm restrained to play Regent on huge maps which provides now a more than a sufficient challenge for the builder player.
The new AI priorities with the science & discoveries tree, and a SLOWER expansion on small maps now renders the MAP SIZE an even more crucial setting choice : it's even easier than before to win an Emperor game on tiny map+4 civs ( where I never lose a single unit at the hands of the AI ) than a Regent on huge+16 ( where the AI can always be the fly in the ointment around weak cities ). To have only 2-3 defenders per frontier city is NOT enough.

Well I was a long-time Civ I, Civ II, and Civ III player, but I find Civ III somewhat dull now, and the price tag for PTW is too much for what I would get out of it. I'll pick it up when it is at bargain prices (in Canada).
But you guys have fun...

No question about it. I've been playing vanilla Civ3 this week and I'm amazed at how much better PTW is! Especially the AI "tweeks".

Have they made tweaks to the AI too? I had not noticed. I am playing PTW, so yes I like it and I will play it until its sequel come out!
So long...
PS: The only other game I play is RRTII!

It's a wonderful, excellently designed game, and probably the most addictive and time-consuming game I have and ever will play.
But is it better overall than Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? Or is the multiplayer as pure fun as a game of Smackdown on Playstation 2 with four players on a multitap? Ooh! I don't think so!

PtW? You actually like that game? It's not like you'd catch me playing it for 2 or 3 hours everyda...er...wait...nevermind.
And there's nothing wrong with Panag's style. A lot more polite than some people.

What do you define as PTW? I surely love what it is, but I hate how little it added over Civ 3.
And it crashes more, too..
