Mad bomber -
I don't want your version of PTW. Whoknows what have you done to the CD (farted on it's general direction, ect.). So I think I'll refuse, thank you.

No need to insult me, a polite "thanks for the offer, but I think I'll pass" would have sufficed.

Not surprised that they lowered the price. I paid the price I offered it for.

panag,
Do you HAVE PTW yet? Or, like myself, are you playing PTW on a Wintel that sits by your Mac?

hhmmm its funny you know
it's funny cause people say Call to Power 2 sux but it was patched and fixed by the Apolyton comuintiy and you guys won't give it the time of day but PtW comes out and you guys give it glory. What am I missing? Civ 3 gets patched and its the best game ever but Call to Power 2 gets patched and you guys don't give its due.
Any way I want to get PtW but from reviews and other topics here I am relucntant of getting it. You people say you like the game. Why? Why is it good. I know the MP sux but what of the SP aspect. Tell me why it's good and I should get it for SP.
I like civ3 but don't play it anymore since I find it missing something and am back at playing Call to Power 2.
Tell me or convince me why I should get PtW.
Thanks
Davor
PS I didn't mean to go on a Call to Power2 rant thought it was funny how some people will say one product is good once patched and anthour game is no good and will not give it a try when patched.

Well, first of all... all I have to do is down load one patch to get the latest.
Then, I am playing a current offering... not trying to resurrect the dead.
What happened to CTP2 is truely unfortunate. I think the game had great potential for legs. Only, those legs were cut off by the developer. Now? It is too late except for some few who find their way into certain fora and can decipher what and what not to down load.

I'm a CTP2 fan myself.
I think the great additions in Single Play for PtW far outweigh the problems with Multiplay (I NEVER play Multiplay anyway ). The AI is a bit better in Single Play. There's a whole plethora of new Civs to choose from (although many of them are unimpressive and poorly portrayed, but the editor can deal with that ), the "Swordsman" and "Archer" units are no longer dead-end units as they can upgrade now, there's the inclusion of 3 new (and quite significant) city improvements, and the editor is also better than it was in Civ3.
If you're interested only in Single Play, then I'd most definitely recommend PtW.

I was a CTP2 fan.
I made some interesting tweaks, AI modif, slics, etc...
There is even my "almost finished" CTP2 MOD in Poly database.
But, after I got Civ3, I just dropped CtP2.
Bascily, I found myself to much fixing and tweaking CtP2 instead of playing it (but sill, I did had a lot of fun when tweaking and testing my last CtP2 mod for two months before Civ3 came).
The biggset problems are some core bugs which would never be fixed, but will still give youi a lot of problems (mostly to MODmakers).
Like some SLIC bugs or problems with AI's moving of stacks through chokepoints
Now I have time to play Civ3, and to tweak my personnal MOD for time to time too.
P.S.
Do you know that original CtP2 had no finished AI vs AI diplomacy at all (preacticly they were always in war).
That was way to much sloppy work.
But with some work of CtP community I think that this was fixed thanks to some SLIC coding (although I dropped form CtP2 in time when this was in testing phase).
P.P.S.
I only Civ3 could have SLIC?

I too would love a programmable scheme like CTP2 had in CIv3 (but then again I'm a programmer).

Civ3 is currently my favorite game and has been for months, but only because I can tweak it to my hearts content (almost).

I agree, whilst I have no idea how to use SLIC, playing mods made by other people for Ctp2 has shown me what it can do.
If Civ 3 had this Im sure people would be able to make some great mods and scenarios for it.
PS. I'm planing to get PtW since my Civ 3 cd has somehow managed to get a hole in it, stopping the game from working. Hopefully PTW will let me avoid this problem.

PTW as a single-player game, Is all I hoped Civ3 would be, the editor, to me, is what makes the difference since I can tweak the game to my heart's delight.
Vanilla civ REALLY sucks.

You have a point, it's obvious most people who remain here are the ones who likes the game, but they are the most knowledgeable also, begin a post with "What Do You not like about PTW".
BTW: What about the mod capabilities of PTW?. I didn´t buy it and I think is very important that the comunity can mod the tech tree, add new units and events - I love those Star Trek and Lord of the Rings scenarios from CivII, they really improved the game.

The mod capabilities are pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. The only things really missing are diplomacy editing and a trigger system for scripted events. As it is, you can revamp the tech tree, maps, units, graphics, governments, etc. In addition, they made it easier (and safer) to have multiple mods on your system without them confliciting.

Basically, I think Sid will probably keep working on his games, when others have come and gone. Usually due to Sid putting his name on it.
The big publishers will not do that, nor spend the time to fix it. One still can download a patch to make Alpha Centauri more compatible with Windows 2000 or Windows XP if necessary, and after adding one line to the AlphaCentauir.Ini file, I did not even need the patch to make it work, although I may still get that stupid line on startup -- CPU Processor is not supported, and the game may crash. Well, if I had any more time, I would find out, and still I could install the patch I did not use, since I downloaded it.

Go abroad and buy it there, or order it online.
I'm also a PTW-supporter. I haven't seen any big differences from plain civ3 yet but it's only my first game and I have just reached the middle-age.
I have spent(or wasted) countless hours playing civ, civ2, CTP, CTP2 and civ3. If I have to compare civ(x) to ctp(x) the difference is that civ(x) has a much stronger 'one-more-turn' feeling. Maybe I haven't spent enough time with ctp(x) to get that feeeling, on civ3 I didn't get that feeling until I reached monarch level and really understood the game mechanics fully.
Now I'm an addict.
I don't want help
