Elvis unit
I was trying to add a new wonder and wanted to play a mass regicide game. My King Caesars all look like Elvis. I've backtracked as much as I can and cant seem to get rid of Elvis. Even my old games are now Elvis. Is there a common cause to this that I'm just missing?
Thanks.

You got something against Elvis?
It's got something to do with date, E's birthday or something.

That's too funny! I wish Firaxis had done more with this...

I thought you meant an actual unit that ate burgers (increasing pop and happiness) and then died on the john (decreasing happiness), useful.

How about some other alternative king unit easter eggs? Here's a few I'd like to see:
1. Ronald Reagan
2. Michael Jordan (complete with dribbling basketball)
3. Babe Ruth
4. Marilyn Monroe

Yes, I'm sure they sat down and said "let's allocate resources away from game development and into more elvis units."
The amount of time that took to make was negligible.

If only the game played "Surrender".
Or maybe "All shook up" when a SoD appears.

i thought i read once that a new unit took them a month to do. I also would rather have had a useful unit. As a professional programmer, I find easter eggs rather unprofessional. For a game with so many glaring defeciencies, any time wasted was too much.

That's just the point. In what way was it wasted time? The programmers are people too, y'know. I find it incredible that one unit would take them a month... that's just ridiculous.
Is this in PTW only or Civ3 too?

Programmers are people too, and if they can't have a bit of fun in their jobs, we aren't going to end up with a fun game. So my advise still stands, lighten up!

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but it seems to me that
a) this would have been a month of ARTIST time, not programmer time and
b) Firaxis' professional artists can probably make units much faster than that. Just look at how many units are new in PTW (counting WW2, Japan, and dinos). 80+. I believe the expansion took less than 80 months to make...
I should hope it doesn't take a month to program a unit into the game... how long does it take one of us to add a unit with the editor (assuming we have the art)?
...and please don't tell me that artists can fix the code for MP. I've known a few artists and I know they are not capable of that (in most cases).

If Elvis just replaced the graphics of an existing unit but did the same job then it couldn't possibly have taken a whole month. Couple of days at most.

Of course not, it's no longer his birthday. Set your BIOS clock back a day, he'll probably show up.

panang, as has been said by another, artists are not programmers. Making all the units stick figures would still not increase the time allocated to programming the game.
