Nations Boycotting the UN
I'm boycotting the Nationstates United Nations, which so far has only passed 2 resolutions, the first one being-
1
Fight the Axis of Evil
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.
Description: As the world becomes a more dangerous place, UN member nations must act swiftly in the interests of peace. This means, of course, building lots of new weapons. Only by massively increasing military budgets world-wide will we be able to restore peace and global security.
Votes For: 2
Votes Against: 1
Implemented: Tue Nov 12 2002
---
I urge all left-wing and libertarian nations to avoid this US Republican rhetoric, with this act which won by only 1 vote. Do not join the UN.
Regards,
Premier Redfern Jon Barrett,
Federation of Redfern

Err, Jedinica Vrijstaat is not libertarian and (not yet) left-wing, but I support your boycot. Don't join the UN until they scrap their militaristic resolutions!!!

I have joined, and will vote against militaristic resolutions. We want peace, but not via destroying all nations that disagree with us. Forced military is not the answer.

WAIT!
Do not give up on the international community!
If we join, than we can change it from the inside. By boycotting we win nothing and they win resolutions! We must join and than rally the people to a lowering of military spending resolution.

Read this thread, very important
http://www.nationstates.net/forum/vi...?p=25159#25159
the point is that resolutions only afect the people that voted for them at the time, so not you if you join now.

i never noticed that military resolution. the Dominion of Tea Kaygia sees no threat (apart from lemmy of course ) from any "axis of evil" and would not like to have to bulk up its military as a new UN member

I just joined the UN. With luck, I won't get shafted by things like this.

If you do see a resolution you don't want to put up with that's going to win, you can always just leave.

Bah. We Laguzans need no UN to interfere with our plans. We wouldn't mind having a ceremonial seat, but since the Great Gods from the Sky Who Shall Return Soon state that ignoring resolutions in the UN is more difficult than it should be, let the infidels make their statements without Laguza's wisdom. Like they deserved to hear it anyway.
