on one hand SMAC is too sci-fi and i'm too lazy to learn all the details, but OTOH civ3 is flat boring.... tough one. i do like that unit workshop thingy in SMAC though. therefore, SMAC


In the end however, i agree with Henrik, civ2 is the best

Small interjection on SMAC's dark graphics. I'm not sure where you could download it now, but there's a mod which changed SMAC's dark red ground to a light tan.

Original subject.
I'm kind of on the fence because I liked both. SMAC had a much better game interface. I also loved the unit workshop and the sci-fi theme. But, Civ3 has a much better ai and the tech eras make more sense.
