The greatest Civ game
This maybe one of the big questions about Civ in the Civ community. Which title is ultimately the best and greatest; the champion of all of them. Is it the original Civ with all the nostalgia? CivNet maybe? Civ II with the improved game play and multiplayer gaming? ToT - Civ II with MP and some other changes, is that the winner? Civ III with the new concepts and 3D graphics? Or maybe it's Activision's CtP2 that takes the title because of it's great ability to be customised?
This question puzzles me too occasionally, but still don't have the ultimate and final opinion. Because of that I'm officially positive towards all Civ titles as I really don't know who's my favourite. I guess it's Civ because of all the nostalgia and memories, but it could well be someone else. So I decided to vote Civ, despite it could someone else.
So which Civ title is your favourite?
I included CtP and CtP2, despite it can be disputed if they can be accepted as they're made by Activision, but I didn't see any reason to exclude them. I chose Civ II MGE as it has the MP support and the CiC and FW add-ons. Civ II UCC counts as Civ II MGE in this poll. I.e. all standalone Civ titles (not add-ons) were included in the poll.
P.S. No boring banana option included.

Civilization.
I admit them all that they have significantly improved the genre, one building atop of others' ideas.
Although I wouldnt play it anymore because I can play its more advanced cousins, civ I is the best

Call to Power has some problems, but the Public Works system beats the heck out of moving millions of settlers and peasants. Although it can be slightly annoying to create armies, stacked combat is a lifesaver once you get it going.

HT: they're not Civ games.
DC: no plain Civ II choice as it wouldn't otherwise match up so well with others that have e.g. MP support. Although I concidered it too.

Civ2 Multiplayer Gold Edition (I don't know Civ2 TOT) is the better game in my humble opinion

But Test of Time was horrid (If only becuase of its graphics)
And If someone doesn't like MP, then Civ II MP means nothing!
There should have been a Civ II Fantasic Worlds Choice! (The one with the scenario editor! ) [-although the editor was/is buggy, it worked!]

Civ 2 FW or Scenarios version, both of which I got. ToT I have never played, CtP2 is still full price in NZ (f*** that) and the only reason I got that MGE patch for Civ2 is to comply with the Civ2 Democracy game here. Civ3 would be next though.
PW, although an interesting concept, meant you had to wait forever until you could spare the necessary resources. Gimme settlers anyday.

Any sensible person only ever has the PW tax at 100% for a turn to generate it all in one go. Knowing when best to do this and lower production in all cities for one turn is the strategy, without the extreme tedium of moving 50 non-combat units every turn.

No, because FW isn't a standalone Civ title. It's only an add-on for Civ II. Civ II MGE was included as it matches better up with the rest with it's slight improvements like MP support, compared to Civ II (the classic version).

SMAC isn't a part of the Civ series.

Civ2 is my favorite, and I voted for MGE since that is closest. My vote isn't all that informative though since I never played CTP or TOT.
Civ2 was and is great, with the exception of the poor AI. I enjoyed occasionally getting slaughtered at MGE by some of the good players like Arii and Markus!

Civ3 is my favorite. I have CTP, and I find the PW system to be irksome in the extreme, especially since it made pillaging enemy roads, connects, fortresses, etc. useless. It removed an entire facet, pillaging, from the game.

SMAC not part of the civ series? How dare you?
Well, I'd have to vote for vanilla Civ II, I never played any of its addons or the MP version.

How?
Pillaging is actually a very important part of my strategy in CtP1 as well as in CtP2. In CtP2-MedMod it's even crucial. It's not like PW reserves are infinite or anything, pillaging is no more or less important than in Civ...
