Whose dumb idea was it to make taxes illegal?
Quote:
|
Laws have been enacted to bring the Commonwealth of Ghengland into compliance with the United Nations "UN taxation ban" resolution.
|
When did the UN ban taxes? How will the UN get its funding? This is just flat out stupid. Why are UN countries banned from collecting taxes from their citizens? (I realize that's not what the bill says but the telegram makes it sound that way.)
Can we form a "League of Nations" to go kick the UN's butt?
I hereby announce that Ghengland is looking for other nations in Apolyton to ally itself with that are militant and capitalist to so form a Militant Capitalist Alliance to guide Apolyton and the "ignorant" UN members towards a civilized world order.
So help us God. (almost forgot that part)

Before you go on a crusade against the world peace organisation we so dearly love and hate at the same time...
The resolution was about banning UN taxes, in other words, we banned the UN from taxing our citizens directly.
A resolution that would ban all taxing in the world would never make it through the delegatory selection. The people suggesting it and believing such a thing would pass would be the laughing stock of the world.

Kassiopeia is right. Individual nations are still allowed to collect taxes from their citizens. The UN, as an international body, is not allowed to directly tax individual members of sovereign states or sovereign states.
The UN will receive funds the way it always has, through unsolicited contributions from its member states.

Apparently no one fully read my post. I mentioned that I realized that the resolution didn't take away our power to tax our citizens but the telegram informing us of the passage of the resolution phrased it that way.
Which was a real shock to those who hadn't read the resolution previously.

I too think this is the most stupidist thing I have ever heard. How the hell are you suppost to fund anything without taxes?? The United States of Jackson here by wish to join this alliance, allthough we are a peacefull nation. We have recently found large deposites of Uranium and soon nuclear weapons. In fact we are not a member nation of the UNited Nations etheir, so thankfull we do not have to follow such a stupid law.

That's their problem, and now that Tupan is struggling to develop its economy, I'm not worried about that, despite being a UN member.

Ummm... whoops.
The UN can't get money directly from our citizens, but I gather we will pay membership fees instead.

I'm pondering the creation of a United States of Apolyton (USA) with the goal of being a dominant world superpower (like the RL USA) and attempting to turn the UN into our puppet plaything. If it doesn't want to be our plaything then we kill it.
Each of our nations would be a state but the government would be more like the original USA where the states were loosely allied independents.
The actual USAp would join the UN from some nonplaying person's email and we would elect a President who post 3-day polls on the issues the nation is given.
Each of the memberstates votes on the issue and thus we as a group determine the USA's agenda.

We wouldn't give our support to another player we would have a United Player that we all have some control over by voting as memberstates of the Union.
Then we would have Militaristic States and Pacifist States that can excel at their agendas while projecting more power as a whole.
That's the secret behind the real US, its really 50 seperate nations who all work together making them a global superpower.

The Holy Empire of Sheepsta, while friendly to the new USA, will decline to join it.

in view of our current agreements with other nations, at this time United States of Jackson can not become part of the United States of Apolyton.

The Commonwealth of Akiria also declines to join the USAp. As a region, we are already allied. I would agree to an alliance on the EU nature, in which we stay as seperate nations, with seperate agendas, and no federal government, but my people feel they will lose national identity and overall power in Akiria if we join a USAp. We believe that no nation should have any direct power on anothers domestic policy, which would be impossible with a USAp, in the USA style of government.

The idea is for this to be OUR nation not mine or any one other state's nation.
I kind of envision it like a Democracy game with each memberstate (our individual nations) having one Senator (each of us) who votes on the USA's choice on its policies.
Each policy would be placed in a new poll thread in this forum and each of us votes, at the close of the poll (3 days) the acting President (who I assume will be elected by the memberstates) endorses the decision of the poll.
Think of the pop of the USA as the citizens of the District of Columbia and each of us as seperate states similiar to the original USA before the Constitution. They were autonomous and allowed to raise their own militias, impose their own taxes and enact their own laws.

hey now, we don't the U.N. taxing our dissident citizens. they don't like that.
The citizens are more likely to comply with income taxes going to the goverment. And elected officials dictating how much goes to the U.N.

Ghengis, I agree!
My state has gone from Moralistic Democracy to Iron Fist Consumers, as apparantly I have outlawed elections, (though I never did so) so I suppose I won't leave you with my customary "In The Name of God" today.
