The Great Succession Gamer Poll.
Since we now have a CivGroup, I thought it might be an idea to take the pulse of Succession Gamers on Apolyton.
Please check ALL CivII versions that you have, so that those who start games on a particular Civ version will know how many potential players are out there.
Also, feel free to use this thread to discuss potential succession game ideas -
Mine are (game version in brackets):
Red Front scenario (FW)
A no-government-change-except-to-Democracy game (any)
A no-improvements game... the stipulation is to win by AC (any)

I had thought MGE included FW… or am I wrong?
Have somebody add Mac and UCC to the poll for the differently-abled, or explain that these versions are MGE-compatible.
I do have ToT, but do not intend to play it. The graphics stink.

@Stray
I don't think MGE and FW are the same thing. Certainly I have scenarios that work with FW and not with MGE.
Y'know, you can download new graphics for ToT... I know for a fact you have done this for MGE
And I guess I should have added that Mac is only MGE/UCC-compatible... but I guess Mac users would know that anyway.
DOH! This is more complicated than I thought...

To follow up in my poll choices, I have 2.42 (most likely to play) ... and a couple others (SMAC and CtPII).
Of those 2 under other, I might think about a CtP game, but other than that, i guess that's for a different forum

We both have all versions, including ToT.
One thing we did a few years back was a team challenge. The same start (for OCC) was played by 2.42 and MPE teams. The result ... well the third team - the AI won
I'm not suggesting an OCC game but the idea of team play may lead to interesting discussions.

Any further comment on a less boring group icon, maybe like this?

Nice icon... but how does it signify 'succession games'?
Newbies might find it hard to intuitively grasp what CivGroup the icon refers to... and we need more players!

I have UCC which is the equivelent of MGE, it cotains FW as well.
also have 2.42 but not loaded on computer and not keen to load it either. (unless lotto win enabling no work happens along)
Also have TOT, CTP,CTP2, CIV 3 , AC
would have been cheaper just to go to the nuthouse than buy all these bloody addictive games.

15x19 pixels is too small for a picture of a relay baton hand-off. Look at the 6 Civ3 Democracy Game icons, and what do you think they mean? But, if you're like me, the first time you saw one you checked it out.
STYOM, I don't know how you think "C2 SG" will draw in more participants than a cool symbol…

242 and MGE here.
I like your icon idea, Stray. Like any pictograph, it will be incomprehensible at first, but distinctiveness will win out in the end.

DG made me upgrade to a decent version of Civ, MGE.

Lord of the Rings is supposed to be a good (and very difficult) scenario, and the movies have raised awareness of Middle Earth and its denizens.
Other scenario ideas: no wonders, super barbs, AIs with improved unit stats (e.g., 1/3/1 phalanx), more expensive wonders, caravans, and/or diplomats. For real masochists, there's an AI head start scenario (modesty prevents me from naming its creator) which had me fighting for my life for a number of years.

Was the head start scenario the one where you start on the center island and all the civs start on their own island around you. If so, that one was indeed nasty, and took considerable play turns before you could turn the tide on them. The earlier they got to your island, the tougher it was.
If it wasn't, nevermind

As a Macintosh user, I have the One True Version --
Civization II Multiplayer Gold Edition.
All others are false gods and those who tarry with them shall surely burn in the eternal flame pits of hell.

I have an ancient Mac version which says copyright 1996 but does not include muliplayer capability. I can download and play 2.42 games, but as yet nobody has figured out how to upload my saves.

Hey Grigor, let's get the particulars. Software version (Get Info), whether it's being used as-is or you've added patches, what OS you're on, etc.

You are a perfect example of what I was thinking when I added the 'other' option, Grigor
It'll get sorted out one way or another.

Grigor: There are other Mac-worshippers *cough-jrabbitcough* who've had problems with d/l and u/l of game saves and even zips. It ain't necessarily your version to blame.

Well, Grigor, I've been told more than once that you must have the current patch to be compatible...
but that was when I was told that MGE was the only mac-friendly version of Civ2.
Does the disc packaging list the game's software/hardware requirements?
(BTW, Stray -- I asked him to post that info.)
