Shogun attack and loss of a lux.

I fear an attack by the Shogun (and have for the last three or four turnchats) but the possibility is now very real and dangerous. Japan has two Cav on the footsteps of an undefended size 12 city. I won't go into my yelling and screaming to defend our heartland (as I did that in the orders thread) but I want to bring up the FAM aspects of a suprize attack by the Shogun. One turn ago, all our size 12 cities were on the verge of disorder due to war weariness. We solved this by getting a new lux item and adding 4 happy faces to each city. We get one lux item from Japan (silk). If they attack, we loose that item and our size 12 and bigger cities are once again in danger of rioting (plus cities we drafted from).
I guess I just wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of this.
Thanks....you may now have your thread back.

The loss of four happy faces which silk brings us will create two additional unhappy citizens in every size 12 city. I think we can take it.

If they attack, that loss will be offset by the Declare on us Bonus (atleast for 5 turns).

I suggest that we keep the MPPs intact untill we are safe from these shogun.
I think we can take the happiness hit for the duration of a conflict with Japan.
I suggest getting some destroyers, battleships get flight for bombers to guard our shores.

Why not get Japan out of our territory via an RoP to quickly funnel their troops to either Rome or Germany who they are really after?
We could still use blockers to control where they exit.

I agree regarding the speed, but with so many undefended cities, I am leery (sp?) about it. We are so railroaded, that Japan can do somethig stupid and take one of our cities precipitating a MAJOR war.
We would have to go communist and mobilize for war so that we can crank out enough troops and ships for a japanees mainland invasion in a short time. Nothing short of ahniallation will satisfy the indignation of such action.
I am not for a ROP for that reason. But I do agree it will get them out sooner.

I have toyed with the idea of signing an ROP with Japan, but in my past SP games doing so has done little to prevent an invasion, especially if the AI wishes to do so. A militaristic nation like Japan will not let what it sees as a "golden" opportunity (like this) to pass by, and I believe now that an attack is indeed imminent.
Had our cities all had at least a defender (infantry) then that might have affected how the Japanese planned what to do. Hell, they may have even decided to help us until they realized they could slip in our backdoor while all our forces are at the German Front, and thus take our production powerhouses.
It is extremely possible that Japan will take one of our cities this upcoming turn. I dare say that it is almost a sure thing. We MUST move available reinforcements back to help our poor cities....

Considering you already were thinking of Japan as a threat why was nothing done b4 now about it.
Why wait until they are already landed on our shores to comment?

Nimitz is correct, the vile Japanese have declared war on us this most recent turn.
Now that it's too late to discuss what we could have done before, we must discuss what we do NOW.
By the way, we lost our supply of Silks. (of course)

nz_upy , for your information, I had been screaming to get troops to the "soft underbelly" in Classical Apolyton for the last 4 to 5 turns. I had even requested drafting in as many as 4 of my 10 cities. Also, my builds and "Q's" had about 10 inf, 3 cav and an Ironclad in them before the palace move happend.

I believe we can make peace with Japan in the next five turns. By then we'll have sunk most or all of their wooden ships with our ironclads, and have killed any additional forces that they land on our territory.

The small Japanese invasion force is of little threat to us. (They should have been destroyed at the time of this writing if I'm correct).
As for the Shogun's fleet of galleons and frigates, they can easily be sunken these next couple of turns, if they don't take us on a wild-goose chase and flee...
However, I recommend at least 3 to 4 Destroyers be built as a Coast Guard, and pump out a couple of battleships as well to support them. The time it takes to complete should not be long, especially in light of building the Hoover Dam. Our production values have soared, although corruption is now a problem again due to the palace move....
I would also suggest a fleet of bombers be built for our new Air Force, to pound the Germans and Romans into submission (or any enemy for that matter), and possibly also destroy Japanese ships off our coast...eventually having a small handful along the coast for defense of our coastline, and then several bombers at our battle front's will be most helpful.
Alas, by that time though peace may be at hand. Regardless, defense should be a number #1 priority....

This is in response to Shiber's question asking if anyone has seen this rep hit bug.
I have seen it in version 1.29. I played a game and tried to be very nice to everyone. I was hoping to win by UN vote, the only method I have not won by. About half way through the game Japan, who was polite to me, signed an alliance with someone against me. I had an RoP with Japan at the time when they declared war on me. I did not have any unit in Japanese territory at the time. I had built a railroad through their territory so I could move my units to the other half of my empire quickly. Later I noticed my rep with all of the other Civs was declining. Even gracious Civs were becoming annoyed. When I tried to sign an RoP with England Liz gave me some blabber about backstabbing Japan. Pardon, they declared war on me! One by one all the Civs would not renew most of our agreements when they expired.
