Thanks guys .
I believe about a thousand my posts were devoted to PBEM set-up, and additional few hundred later in multiplayer communities.
Then, some posts about Civ 3 and other games, and massive spam in the staff room .

Do posts in the staff room count towards Post Count?
Does ming have a spam thread there he posts in to bump up his status?

1287 posts by me in CtP-Multiplayer forum, w00t .
BTW, while most posters usually become better posters as they spend more time on the forums, I believe that the thing I posted 16 days after registering here (that post took me to Chieftain) was the single best thing I've posted thus far.

Sorry, have I got misalinged here? We had kings, settlers, princes and warlords and things when you registered, right? I was certainly lurking at the time and vaguely recall them.

My best post... originally proposing that PBEM games be registered and the players have a ladder, getting points assigned according to their performance.
It took more than a month's worth of various debates till the system was enacted.

Titles and registration dates are interesting, but oftentimes it's the content of a forum contributor's post that will leave a lasting impact on my impression of the contributor.
And, no, one doesn't necessarily have to write thesis-style posts to draw my interest. If anything, that'll chase me away.

I don't care about titles. I've been around here for more than 3 years, and I'm still a king. I try to post only when I have something meaningful to say.
Ok, so I spammed a few times in the past, but I did not make this a way of life

I only bothered with the 500 posts custom avatar thingie...beyond that, nothing's a particularly big deal. I post mainly in the OT anyway, so not many +1s to my name.

I would say that ranking is very important. In fact, it's one of the things that has made this board one of my favorites- all goals can be reached if you try hard enough.
In my old days, I used to check my postion weekly (sometimes daily) and that of everyone else at elast once a month.
Now however, having met most of my goals, I only check the totals about every 2 months, and instead of checkign the top 200 posters, i usually only look at the top 20... therefore, I am a bit out of the researching picture as of now due to laziness laxity and apathy

The ranking matters to me when I look at other people's posts. If I see a person with the rank of Emperor or above, who is not a mod, my spam alert goes off instanteneously.
|
So I'm a spammer?

No one registered after me has more... but then that is not counting OT posters...

You certainly should be ashamed... your having more posts than me and registering after me has kept me at apolyton! (well, you, Solver and Gramphos ) Only I may have more posts than those who hath come before
-
Anyways, when you ahve been here as long as some people, you begin to amass large post counts... I get 2000 posts a year on average...

Some of us are more active than others. I liked rankings as a newbie because I thought "Oh, that guy's an Emporer, he knows a lot about this place", wheras if I saw a settler, or a warlord, I'd think "Oh, he's not too active here".
Of course, the fact OTF posts don't count any more threw me off. Like Mao for example got to Deity in under a year, and the OTF must have contribued to that. However, there a lots of people who have been at Poly who are Princes and Kings, but they could be mainly OTF posters, and would be Emporer by now if they were around pre-Spring 2001.
My opinion: Great for newbies, after that, only good for describing on-topic posters.

when I joined we had titles like civer or something goofy like that.
I like to think I'm not a spammer. But my posts are close to 3 a day now! PTW democracy game helps in that regards. And pluse I actually started playing civ3 again.
Many of my posts were in off topic when they counted. Pluse I got two post count reductions of about 2500 to 3000 posts.
But I like to think my post count comes from hanging around a long time. 3 years now. Actually I have been here almost 4 years (but I had a different screen name)

The ranking system is there to encourage people to post as much as possible wherever they see a good spamming opportunity. I cant count how many times ive answered threads about borked MP servers in CtP2 general, im always first to those prime spamming opportunities, but nothing excessive. I dont care about the ranking system, ill probably care more when i get to 2900 posts though.
