You might want to dump Ad-Aware
Yes, I've been using adaware for quite some time to clean my system of nasty spyware. But in a discussion on another forum, it would seem that Adaware is practically dead and useless now. There haven't been any updates since September 24, so there's been a good deal more spyware that's cropped up since then.
So, if you're still runnning adaware (or if you don't have an anti-spyware program to begin with), I'd suggest switching to Spybot: S&D. I just got it, and I find it to be much better than adaware, since it picked up a bunch of stuff adaware never did as well as having integrated update software.
Article about Adaware nowadays:

Kazaa refuses to load once I delete it's illicit web-monitors. There's nothing I can do to stop the junk mail now so why bother trying?....

Get Kazaa lite.
If its once-every-3-hour popup is still too much, get diet kaza ( www.dietk.com) to use over the top of kazaa lite.

1) Takes up system resources
2) Can cause system stability issues/incompatibility
3) They're *******s and trying to be sneaky about it. The bastards.

Spyware can range between minor irritant (more and frequent popup spawning) to down right malicious (data-mining). The nastier spyware can gather personal information about you stored on your hard drive and send that information God-knows-where to be used to do God-knows-what. This information can include street addresses, phone numbers, Social Security Numbers (or non-USA equivalent), passwords, even credit card numbers...any kind of personal information stored on your hard drive. Brilliant Digital tried to pull a fast one on the unsuspecting with their spyware. If it had gone forward, they would have had the ability to remotely activate and use any infected computer. They said they were going to try to "sell" the computing power of all those computers to various kinds of research projects that needed extra computing power. An uproar was stirred and the plan was dropped.
Spyware IS bad. And you SHOULD care.

Alva, at least in the United States our Congress IS working on legislation, but it's slow-going. Hopefully SOMETHING will be passed by the Republican-controlled Congress this session...even though they'll probably try to find some way to make it favor their campaign contributors...

I downloaded and ran SpyBot. It came up with a list of files from Adobe Acrobat, MSIE, Office etc...
Should I 'fix' these? They don't appear harmful ... would they stop the parent program from working?

Its probably catching the "integration with ie" stuff that allows you to (for example) view pdf's inside of ie using acrobat. See if the website has any information about these products, but if you can't find any information, leave them be.

This is exactly what I've been saying all the time in this thread.
Ad-Aware's been crap since August last year.

spyware is sneaky. it is quite easily to get spyware ya know. I can get it just by posting at bulletin boards like Apolyton. I don't know how they can do it with my firewall, but they do.

Worse than Ad-Aware, is imesh.
Why don't one of you start a general Crappy Program thread?

Ad aware 6.0 is out now, and is updated regularly.
I use both adaware and Spybot since they can catch what the other one misses.
