Thank god for that. Ming is twice as old as me. And there are people who have been posting since 1970 (eek! Pre-internet) Did you ruin your education with Civ then, instead of your career? I'm doing both ! (I'm at work now)

Hehe 1970 is a vb glitch.......it means they were at the site(s) that existed before 'Poly was created.

Oh, I had some fantastic mental vision of 'poly being founded by internet pioneers, some of the guys that actually came up with the whole thing. Hmm, one illusion shattered. I imagined these guys wanting to help build the internet, just to play pre-Civ strat games "on-line". We may be "oldies" but 1970 is still before most of us were born !

Well, if my firm gives me a computer, a high-speed connection, a desk in a corner room and little work, why shouldn't I ruin my career. I'm thinking of installing Civ3 here so I can play at work, but imagine if I got caught.
Being sacked would give me more time to post and play however.

Any chance of a bit of sugar ? Like my boss going on holiday for a year ? Or Alt-Tab support for Civ3. Then I could kill it when he came round the corner.

Are you calling me a dictator? I ALWAYS use a republic/democratic gov. Funny how they always vote me back in every 4 years... but that's democracy in action. Bush would definitly call me a dictator, Saddam would call me a degenerate democratic something, and Yang, well, what would he say...

I had not played PC games. an acquaintance showed me age of kings which he had just bought. I liked it, and bought Age of empire which i saw on sale in a bargain bin. I mentioned this to a friend who said i should try civ. I checked it out on the internet, decided it looked interesting, and bought Civ:TOT. I got hooked, played it more than all other PC games combined. Played loads of orgininal game (till I reached level of mediocre deity player) played loads of scenarios (and even contributed a describe file for one) played TOT sci fi game.
Thought i was completely burnt out on civ - started playing SM's Gettysburg. Then found old TOT strat guide, got intrgued by fantasy game, have started playing it. Ive got probably another 14 games of gameplay now (fantasy game as each of seven "races" and midgard scen. ditto)
Will probably buy SMAC next. (though I also still have lots of gameplay left on civil war collection - still only played thorugh first day of Gburg, and theres antietam and south mountain too)

Well you'll never worry about running out of gameplay with this game ! SMAC is the definition of "infinitely replayable"

I mean, you're not that old. I'm only nineteen, after all. But then I don't remember the early Civ games. I played Civ2 and never bothered with Civ1. Played only the newer games as they came by. My uncle - whom I admittedly swiped my old copy of Civ2 from - noticed me playing it and said that he got impatient by the Middle Ages and said I could keep it. He played Warcraft and so I got hooked on Warcraft and Starcraft. I would spend entire days on Age of Empires. I seriously would like a copy of Age of Mythology.
I'm just saying that we move in a fast-paced society. I remember polaying PacMan as a kid and thinking the Atari 2600 was "cool."
Damn! I'm old too!

It was Civ1... In the early 90s, 92 or 93 I think it was. One of the first games to our 386! I got it from a friend (warez and pirate copies were simply not an issue in my then young mind... ). I played it really much. The first times, after several hours with this game, I used to dream about it when I went to sleep. And my friend whom I got it from, tought me how to edit the files so the opening credit names and text would be my own! I was so amazed when I saw how he added Josef Stalin and Adolf Hitler to the openeing text!
After playing it for a looong while, I started to recognize the random made maps... And then Civ2 with it's scenarios and Test of Time arrived. Had a lot of fun with those. Btw, civ3 is the only civ-game I've played without returning to the previous version for a while...

Alt-tab works fine for me... Try setting your screen resolution to the same as Civ3 uses (1024x768) and see if it helps.

I started with a "borrowed" and later bought Colonization. Later I played CivI/II/III, SMAC/X and CtP1/2. Games I enjoyed most are Colonization and CivII/III.

i first played civ1 on my dad's amiga, but i didn't play that much (relatively). the big breakthrough was when someone gave me a burned copy of civ2 (don't worry, i ended up buying FW, got someone to buy me MGE, and later bought another copy of civ2). Hooked from then on (excepting for civ3, but i still play 2)

I think that the first time I played Civ1 is 1992. It was 'love-at-first-sight'. The game really got me for good.

I was burning time in the eloctronics area in Wal-Mart when I saw a book that said "Civilization: Call to Power stratagy guide." I checked the book out and I saw all the stuff and I became obsessed with getting the game. The rest is history. That was 3 years ago, I was 13. My mom said I was glued to the PC when I was playing.
I am I the only poster who started with CtP1 ?!?
