if you go early republic and are situated near me and i catch wind of it.....

but an early republic if you are hidden in a corner somewhere is always a good opition, and if you have alot of trade, early republic is a must.....

but if you have little ocean, not alot of trade specials, its better to expand you @ss off in monarchy and pump caravans.....

hard to celebrate without trade.....but then again, thats when its time to focus on that early wonder STWA and/or pyramids which is lethal together and go crack some skulls.

pikemen don't defend against a horde of pike/catapults combos

there is always a window of oppt to war, the problem with one night games, is that when those windows come , they are often in the middle of expansion/caravan pumping which makes war a less than viable choice on many occassions......

however cutting through someones empire to take their resources in a multi night game has a nice ring to it

at ease gentlemen

And if your cities are exposed, you'd better not have stripped your defenses down to 1 unit to help your shield production in republic. That's OK for your inner cities if you've got them surrounded and can reinforce quickly. But when a couple of ships stuffed with vet crusaders can hit your soft core, you're toast.

agreed, there is no recovery for that long armada of ships coming, i remmeber Graag coming at me with about 20 triremes full of crusaders, the turn he landed, and i could see him coming, i just upgraded via leos to riflemen he was so far behind it was his only chance....needless to say, my five riflemen became vets on the first attack with NO damage, and i wiped out his entire army...

he was angry, i was sweating by the time it was done....

That's the beauty of civ.......you both know a battle is coming, because it's one players best chance when the other starts to build up a lead...(better to die valiantly than slowly stagnate)..but neither knows the outcome for sure. You spend ages building up attack force/thinking up defence, waiting for the crescendo of final attack......then in a few short turns your civ is either triumphant or cast upon the shores of irrelevance.

Yet another wonderful quote from Apolyton's very own wordsmith. Didn't know economists were that good at English

Be careful, some of us might take offense to that.

You're management. You have to be literate precisely because the technical guys under you aren't.

I may be in management now, but there was a before.

But you're right. As soon as they found out that I could communicate both verbally and written, I was fast-tracked to management. Actually, that is the easiest way to be promoted in the technical field, since the combination of good technical and communication skills is not common. I still consider myself a better technician.

I see.. technicians build Colossus; communicators build Hanging Gardens.

I think I'm having an epiphany.

Technicians build both. Management then speaks in broad, sweeping praise of what Wonders they have wrought.

The closest the techs get to proper credit is the occasional manager who will say "we" instead of "I"...

A good manager will always say "we".
It helps spread the blame when something goes wrong.

That's why I say 'our' cities, rather than 'my' cities, in succession games
