There is a group goto command but in my experience it isn't much use. My attacking force is usually comprised of units that move at different speeds so they don't simultaneously arrive at the muster point.
If you are referring to stacking units, that is much more useful. Your best defender will automatically defend unless you override with the "Designate Defender" command.
A strong defensive unit can protect your weak defense, strong offensive units in the stack from counterattack. Be wary of the artillery which will damage all the units in your stack. The AI uses it quite a bit, perhaps too much.
