How does Score work in PTW?
Yes I know that there have been threads about scoring adn that there are existing posts about it for Civ 3 but I haven't found anything for Play The World and thought I would ask.

How is Play The World score determined?

Here's a typical post from about scoring (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3acad_maxscore.shtml) that talks about happy citizens and territory but this definitely does not take into account the way it works in PTW. How is your score every turn calculated?

I think it's pretty important since so many games are based on the final score after X hours and people should really know how it's calculated.

I believe the post you linked to is 100 percent accurate in MP/PTW as well as SP..... in fact I'm willing to bet on it, and have, frequently.

Can only respond to SP PTW, but I've noticed absolutely no difference in scoring.

Strange that it could work the way that it's posted though.

I mean after turn 1 a player has 30 points if they turn their settler into a city automatically.

If the formula for each turn really is:

(Territory + HappyCitizens*2 + ContentCitizens + Specialists) * Difficulty

Then after 1 turn you should have (9 territory + 1 content citizen) * 3 for difficulty on regent for a total of 30. This makes sense BUT note that you ALWAYs get 30 right away for your first turn if you build a city no matter what the difficulty level is.

I've also noticed that on the next turn you never get up to 60 points which you would if the formula is true.

I’m confused…

It is the average of your turn by turn score that is your "true" score, as the poster mentions one paragraph further down in your link.

That's a good question about the difficulty though. Maybe we can get some of our math crunchers to figure that out- one possible solution is that in MP, all scoring is on Regent base?

I just started a deity pbem -I don't think the scoring system is different from "normal" MP-games- and my starting score was 60...so the factor for diff. level seems to have remained.

Who keeps track of scores? I play mostly for the "feel" of the game. In fact, I've got weapons inspectors in Carthage right now and I don't like what they're telling me!

Hmm... interesting. I will have to experiment with this.

It's interesting to note that happy citizens will boost your score up considerably over time. I think that this definitely factors into making the Religious trait one of the most powerful and Wonders like Hanging Gardens and the Oracle are super powerful in terms of the effect that they have on your actual score.

Also boosting luxury up at the expense of science and money could also be a very interesting strategy to jack up your score.

How does your 'power' come in to play with score. In the screen with scores it shows the having nukes etc. will boost yer points, but is there a formula?

Im not entirely convinced the score system works properly, I played a MP hotseat game with a friend and I was what felt like dominating but our scores stayed within a couple points of each other even though he wasnt expanding like I was... altough he seemed to care about points more than I, I dont really care about 'em...

The trouble is that they all reset to chieftain difficulty.

If you wipe-out all other civs, you will have the highest score! Don't worry about what the score is, if you win, yours is the highest.
