Miriam's research is locked
I never noticed this before, but Miriam's research appears to be locked at -2, just as Wang's efficiency appears to be locked at 0.
I noticed this only on my current game where I am running Miriam as Demo, Green, Wealth, and Cybernetic. This should yield a research rate of 0. But it remains at -2.
I don't recall ever seeing this posted here before.
BTW, what happens when she is running Fundy? Does research remain at -2? (I will check this tonight.)

I have never seen that noted before -- I play Miriam infrequently myself but I would have remembered if someone posted that.

Research goes from -2 to -4 when running Fundy. It drops back to -2 when changed to Cybernetic, and to 0 if Fundy is then removed
(You can check all this thru the scenario editor)
Miriam can never be SE research positive, as knowledge (giving a +2 research) is her aversion - she can't run it)

Maybe that's why my current game crashed. It was violating the rules.
I'll double-check the game tonight and post it so that seeing is believing. No pun intended.

How was it violating the rules? You had a 0, which should be fine.

Ned said he was locked at -2. Anyway, Mir might not be so smart but she is a great thief.

Sorry, mea culpa. When I got home I checked it out. It does indeed change to 0 with Cybernetic.
I must have been seeing things. Still, it would be cool if Miriam could run Fundy without the -2 research penalty.

Right. It would be cool if Morgan could run Free Market without the -5 POLICE, too.

Good to see some familiar names. I'll have to call here more often.
I confess to still disliking playing Miriam as well as the Aliens on random faction games.

Yeah I was over there and saw that the place is dominated by "planners" who seem to think FM is the road to catastrophe.

Yes please! We lost the last poll on FM by only 3, so if we can get a few more pro-FM players involved, we'll have our revenge

/me grins at the prospect
Seriously, if we had some name names in there such as yourselves, all voting and campaigning for FM, it'd make a massive difference. There's just no convincing some of these hippies though.

Yes, well, let's just hope we have more votes this time. The "CNN Special Documentry" should help with that........

Or how a thread about Miriam can evolve to a fascist conspiracy.

Miriam is probably my favorite faction to play. She is always a tough AI competitor. A very "charming" lady, very much in the mold of Osama bin Laden.

Yes, it's very much like Kenny but some silly symbol in his head. Maybe they fired it into Kenny's head during an episode.
OH MY GOD THEY MADE KENNY RELIGIOUS! BASTARDS!
Or not.

Free Market = TEH SUX.
I mostly play the Gaians, so I don't get many chances to use it, but I don't anyway. I have the unfortunate tendency to carry my personal values over to the game.

It's my favorite faction to play also Ned. I thought you might get a kick out of that.

I do to -- so I usually move from planned to free market ASAP (As Soon As Practical).

Though I am a staunch Morganite, when taking a break from Builder-style play, Miriam is, hands down, my favorite. Her attack and support bonuses are stupendously useful in just overwhelming your foes. Often I'll run her like a builder and just use my extra support, pre-clean, to field an army of formers, and just pave my way to greatness.
Her only real drawback is that you'll almost certainly get beaten out to some of the early wonders, unless you're a) lucky and b) very on the ball with your probe teams. If you don't have _everyone_ infiltrated as Miriam, you're doing something seriously wrong.
