So we have almost 27,000 members...
...but...

I've noticed these kind of DL's before, so my guess is that the total number is more about 10,000...
I can't help but think that Dan or Markos also know this but don't take action because 27,000 sounds more impressive than 10,000
Or 250, after all AH's DL's are deleted

Oh, it's Ninot's brithday. That's nice.
Did the guy with those DL's ever post with any of them?

Don't know, but I never heard of the guy before.
Who's Ninot, and if you know him why don't you start a happy Bday thread in the forum you know him from?

He's a Civ3/PTW DemoGame guy.
I won't start a Happy Birthday thread, 'cos that's a bit spammy, but I'll send him a PM.

I think that any account which hasn't had activity for six months should be put on "hiatus," and if there's no activity by nine months, it should be deleted.

I think they get better advertising money with the member list being so large.
So my suggestion?
Create more DL's to help generate more revenue for this great site.

People often return to the site after a long while though. I think you may be right, for those with less than 100 posts, say, because there are bags of registered users that fit into this category.
Still, I don't know how helpful removing unused accounts would be.......if there is no benefit we may as well just trumpet how many 'members' we have.

DF: Spam! Spam! Spam!
Okay, back to the topic.
Spikey,
if we would remove all those unused accounts, how could we match up with CFC after that? Think if they would then have more registered accounts than we have. Now that would be scary.

I would hope that Markos doesn't actually worry about that.
This isn't a "who got the biggest manhood" competition that he's having with Thunderfall.

CFC does seem to have the most scoops(sp?)
They had a 1.14 PTW chat with Firaxis.. How come 'Poly didn't

Spelling is correct.
Yes I find that whenever I visit CFC I see a couple of interesting Civ3/PTW news headlines that Apolyton doesn't have.
A 1.14f chat would have been nice, but maybe Firaxis get trolled and flamed less on CFC than they do here?
There can be no argument that the modding community over there is larger and more prolific than here. Nobody can match the breadth of coverage that apolyton provides, though.

Of those 27k how many do you folks think are DLs or unused accounts? 25%? 50%?

FP,
indeed they have more mods there, but remember that Ming's efficiency rate is at least the same as a few CFC mods' together. The only time I've contacted a moderator was to ask if the original announcement thread on CFC about FreeAC (now Stella Polaris) could be pinned. It took much longer than here IMO, but nice that Lefty did it after all.

Ah, yes, that's a good idea to have a minimum post requirement for deletion. 100 posts or less after nine months w/no activity (can they tell when an account has been used for lurking only?), it gets put on "hiatus" or is deleted. There are, after a all, a number of folks who are quite prolific when posting, but then drop off for a while, only to come back later.

Probably yes. PM tracking will tell you when somebody was last on line and their profile will tell you when they last posted. I'm assuming that the admins can see the last time someone logged on without actually having to do it via PM tracking.

All we would have to do is register a few DL's... and if mark allowed hotmail people to register, we'd probably have a few more 1000
I always wondered if the anti-hotmail rule hurt apolyton more than it helped with anti-DL measures?
