3 Hour Exams
I have a three hour exam on Monday and we're not allowed to take in any drinks.
Isn't this a cruel and unusual punishment?
I don't usually go an hour without a drink..

I'm surprised they won't let you take a bottle of water or anything in (I assume you mean that and not an alcoholic beverage ), since they allow you to do it during exams at Hull Uni.
The best thing to do would be, if you're allowed to leave the exam room at any point, to leave a bottle of water in your bag or coat pocket, leave it just outside the exam hall if you can, and dip out for a few seconds every 45 minutes or so and have a good swig, then quickly return to the exam.

Ha Ha. The medical boards are 2 days long, they begin at 8 am each day and end at 6 pm, with a single break at noon.

I had to do three hour exames when I was in college there's no reason you young whiper snappers shouldn't do the same.
Of course we did get to bring food and drink with us and often times the teacher would bring something to share. I guess that was the bonus for taking forever to graduate and being classes that only had 15 students.

sissy, even in high school 4 hour exams are standard, in here anyway
Last friday I had an exam from 9 till 4 (both oral and writing, it were 4 different exams actually), and I had only eaten a bit of bread for breakfast... argh, i thought i was going to die (hunger is one of the most horrible torture methods ever thought of!!!)

Well, I would be surprised if you could leave the room while doing an exam... checking your papers for solutions in your backpack would be pretty obvious!!

There's nothing unusual about a 3 hour exam (which is pretty much the standard over here), although I think it's strange that you're not allowed to bring anything to drink or eat. Strange in the sense that I don't get the reasoning behind it, but not strange in the sense of unusually harsh or anything. Deal with it.

The longest I've been in was about 10 hours (from 9 AM to 7 PM) but off course we could bring drinks in, and had a small break to eat something for lunch.
Anyway, it will surprise you that here at school we have three our of lessons before the first break, and no drinks is allowed in the classroom.
So no, I don't think is unusual, neither strange that in three hours you have not the permission to drink.

Yeah, my longest exams were 3 hours...although I have had two of those in a day before. I think any longer in one sitting is quite unnecessary.

The AP tests and SAT tests were both pretty long in high school. If you had two AP tests in the same day that pretty much meant spending 6 hours in your day starting at 7:30 with a short time for lunch and a couple bathroom breaks, testing all the time.

3 hour exams is the usual, over here.
We are allowed to bring water into exams, but that is it. (food and drink-wise, anyway)

All of my final exams over the past three years were supposedly three hours long. No biggie.
A few of my profs would furnish us with coffee and donuts at the exams, though, which was certainly appreciated.

I've had 3 hour exams all through college and I don't think I've ever needed a drink.
Though this semster I have to take my Fundamentals of Engineering Test which is a good 8 hours with a break after 4. I plan on going to a local bar to recharge.

Wimp.
Even my undergrad exams were 4 hours long. Once I even had two exams at the same time at difference places. Now that was fun.

I don't why I have been misunderstood here. I'm not too bothered how long the exam is, it's the banning of drinks in the exam room that I am commenting on.
I think I'll take one anyway and get away with it.
