Any word on new patches?
I'm particularly interested in patches to improve multiplayer.

Once the next patch comes out, and the MP lag is fixed, I will then start actually playing online, until then...
A heads-up would be appreciated

I'm hoping the technology will evolve to the point where people can build their own games.

People can build their own games now. All you need is a C++ compiler (well, it doesn't have to be C++), a paint program, and maybe some animation software. And a few thousand hours.

I am very disappointed that Firaxis does not give us any clue whether there will be a new patch at all. I mean.... no patch for MP means switching to another game for me. Many MP players already are gone or are awaiting such a patch. The MP forum is almost dead (if not for my posts. ). Even those that said the MP was playable seem to have left.
I remember that somewhere in December there were rumours about a new patch but that is soooo long ago that I doubt we will ever see it. Instead Infogrames announced an "European collectors edition"???? I do not want to collect CIV games. I want to play the MP game I payed for.
Come on Firaxis. Give us some info here. Am I wasting my time or will you guys fix the game at some point in time?

Repeat after me:
A) MP is not broken.
B) If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
A + B = Do we need a patch?

December was "soooo long ago"!?! It hasn't even been a month yet. The reason that companies do not give any information regarding patches or release dates for patches is because they will be crucified if they miss the date by so much as a day. Plus, with the over-the-top criticism they receive by some, could you blame they if they take some extra time to try to address as much as possible in the next patch, rather than release several smaller fix patches?
I would safely assume by Firaxis' past actions that they will patch the game. They did for Civ3.

You are correct. I should have added that at that time it was said to come SOON.

But they do give release dates. And change them if needed. And many (most?) of us prefer a finished game to a game released to early so who cares if they miss the date? At least we know something.

I do hope so Argos and it is why I am one of the few still playing MP but..... it takes a long time to deliver the MP promised on the box and that worries me a lot.

Firaxis has been burned by giving release dates for patches before and being slammed by the fans for missing it, so they don't give them anymore. They are working on a patch for PTW, trust me. It'll be done when it's done.

Hey!
We need ability for setting diplomacy in scenrios.
That's something that needs the patch.
P.S.
Also, I've heard that Japanise scenario will be finished before next patch.

No, MP and bug fixes are the main thing that's being addressed by the patch. No major new enhancements (although if Mike Fetterman gets his Japanese Scenario finished it might be thrown in).

If Horse's previous statements regarding the laws of Oz are correct, and they are the reason for the PTW holdup there, then the patch will be released shortly before the 7th of February, as that is the PTW Aus release. But that is pure speculation.

Lets not fools ourselves here, MP is broken. Some of us may be getting away fine with the way things are but others are not so fortunate. I played a LAN game, my friend had a 5 ping, there was great amounts of lag and we never got to finish our game b/c it eventually lost its connection. Sad but true.
The thought of the patch coming out in the next couple weeks makes me all warm inside...

Warpstorm:
I presume there must be still some major patching for the Editor as there are many things (ie diplomacy, certain city options) which need to be included to be able to make complete scenarios. Do you know if this is to be addressed too? (since I don't play MP otherwise I think the game is almost perfect)

The patch will only address bugs/MP, it is doubtful to include new features.

Editing scenario diplomacy is something in Firaxis to-do-it list.
While events editor is in Firaxis wish-list.
Do-it-list: probably in future patches
Wish-list: proabably in some new XP, if ever
