I was hoping to be nominated, just so there'd be someone left to point the finger at in the event of my sailing off into the sunset on the "Monkey Business", accompanied by Fawn Hall and several thousand empty beakers

Anyone who wants to run for office and risk humiliation in the election, all they have to do is announce their candidacy. I will place them on the election poll list.

Also, february is the 1-year anniversary of the Civ2DG, isn't it?

been lurking in the archives of game 1, looks like january the game got going and februrary was the first elections. Btw, was really impressed with cavebear's initial elected post as city planner

well in a game like this one, being the war minister and having my hands tied at the same time isn't fun....

I am hawkish, like most of you i suspect, but this is a dove game...therefore i shall not run this time around but will always put in my thoughts

It's not as if you can't compete for the job too. Competition and choice are good. You've done a good job and the Citizens might well prefer that you continue to do so. Of course, there *are* other Cabinet positions to consider...

Yes.

I did that when I was Minister of Trade, to keep track of all the available trade goods available by city. Excel works very nicely for alphabetizing and sorting.

We have a great need for someone experienced in the Military arts right now. Surely aggresive defense is a matter in which you have experience.

We are not so much "dovish" as determined only to not seek overall victory through offensive conquest.

Ain't nothing in our game-plan that I know of prevents beating the bejesus out of an aggressor civ in self-defense.

Unless you have real-life conflicts that would get in the way, may I humbly implore you to run for Minister of War?

This is the time for you to come to the aid of your newly-adopted civ. We need all the skills of the Citizenry to survive these troubled times!

I must say that my weakest area is probably trade, so if I am elected I am going to need a strong minister of trade. A good minister of war would be a plus, too.

Don't worry about being "very green" with MGE. You need the software, but it is not actually an MGE game. And "War-monger" or "not War-monger" is not all that important, either. Neither is it all that important that one be (or not be) individually a great player.

What matters for being a good Cabinet member (in a democracy game) is that one can act as a representative of the Citizenry to get their desires implemented, and that one can post polls that are both informative and interesting to the Citizens.

The Citizens choose the Cabinet. The Ministers of the Cabinet post informative screenshots and polls that allow the Citizens to express their desire for the direction of the game. The Ministers then make those desires clear to the President who then implements those desires in the actual game play.

So, if you are intersted in serving New Apolytonia as a Cabinet member, what is a part of the game you are good
at and thing you could offer the various alternatives for that area? Personally, I like City-Planning, but I turned out to be a good President too, (I hope

) because I paid attention to implementing the recommendations of the Ministers.

If you can do that (and it is not that hard because you always have good suggestions from the Citizens), you should run for a Cabinet position. I suspect it is easier here then anywhere else, and it is a good experience. Almost everyone has initially been concerned with their ability to do a good job as a Minister, but they are all gratified and relieved by the positive impact they have made afterwards.

I encourage as many Citizens as possible to run for office, both for the satisfaction of doing a job like this and for the good of our civ.
