Ok, everyone who has already signed up needs to post a list of civ and setup preferences. Concerning civs, post at ranked list of three you would like to play, which will resolve any conflicts with other players (not everyone can play the English, you see).
I'll probably be setting up the map for this game (checking to make sure everything is nice and fun), so bribery begins now: a few dollars nets you an extra Bonus Grassland or two around your starting location; higher "donations" can result in anything from an extra Luxury resource to even a whole new River. PM me for details.
Dominae
P.S: Just kidding about the second paragraph, of course.

OK, I've been away from the forums/threads for almost a half year ...
what's:
Rules: AU MP mod, version 1.00 (recommended)+
Pangea or continents, both suit me fine, although pangea could make things less 'complicated' and perhaps more 'fair' for everyone.
As we'll be playing a small map I wouldn't set water settings too high.
Choosing civs is rather difficult as since PTW has been released I haven't played them all yet ... buit of course I've got some favorites ...
1) Egyptians
2) Celts
3) Japanese
All other settings are fine for me.

I've put a link to alexman's description of AU and its PBEM incarnation here.
The AU mod is a collaborative effort designed to make Civ3 more fun and challenging, without changing too much from stock Civ3. Since most PBEM games are played solely against humans, some of the changes designed to help the AI were removed in the MP version of the mod. The .zip file in the thread I linked to provides all the details.
You're not at all obliged to use the mod, but it many players here seem to like it. However, make sure you check out the readme, as some of the changes alter gameplay somewhat.

Did you people know the Belgians were described by Julius Caesar as 'the bravest of all Gauls'?
Can't wait to prove him right ...
Who better to pick than the Celts ... right?

I don't care about any of the map settings. Gimme and random civ, I like little surprise. Other than that...have we figured out how many turns a day we are doing yet?

Don't worry about it. I feel there is nothing wrong with being a dork. Being a dork can be a lot of fun. Basically I do whatever I want and just pass it off as being a dork. You should try it sometime. People just shake their head and walk away.

Oh yeah, one other thing before we start. I cannot promise I'll be able to see this through till the end. I'm in the Air Force and if we end up going to war with Iraq I'm pretty sure I'll have other things to do besides playing CivIII. So let's hope Bush takes his head outta his ass so I can play some video games.

Difficult choice ... industrious and early war chariots --> early military expansion versus an awesome Celtic UU ...
...
I'll stick to my ancestors for my first MP experience I guess ...
EDIT: meaning the Celts
EDIT 2: PS, BigD, I guess I'll just have to wipe you out before you discover flight, right?

Original post updated. Now just waiting for another 1 or 2 joiners; 3-player games are apparently not fun.
Oh, and I put difficulty at Monarch and Barbarians at Roaming. Hope this is ok.

Not to worry, I'm just a computer geek for the AF. I'm too much of a klutz to want to touch a multi-million dollar plane.
Dom - Sounds okay to me. I've never done Monarch before and would love the challange. Besides, this is about learning right? Hopefully I don't die too soon though.

ormuzd added to the list.
I will not be playing this one, first because I'm involved in a few other games already (and I should really focus on real work), and second because I've volunteered to set up the map.
Are you guys willing to go ahead with just 4 players, or do you want to wait for a fifth?

I don't really mind either way, I'd be happy to go with what we've got if everyone else is fine with it

Sorry all for the delay; I should have the game ready by tomorrow night sometime. AJ could you post or PM me your email so that I can send off the first turn?

Ok, the game is all ready. I put the players in alphabetical order. I've included to first turn, which is AJ's to play.
If there are any problems, post here. A good rule of thumb is to always load your game from a fresh start of PTW.
Have fun guys, and do not forget that you have to posts your results here when you're done!

Great, thanks Dom
Is there a thread somewhere or can someone just post a quick how-to for PBEM? I've never done this before

The person before you in the turn order will send you the file by email, or post it on this thread. Email is far better as it doesn't tax the 'Poly's resources. So I suggest you all exchange emails. When you get the turn, you open PTW from scratch, select 'Load Game', type in your password, and play the turn. Do not save during the turn. When you're done, click 'Done' or press Space/Enter. The game will prompt you to save. Do so, and email the save to the next guy.
Enjoy!

Yep, I set the rules to AU MP mod version 1.00. If you look back in this thread you'll see I provided a link to the AU PBEM thread. The rules for the AU MP mod are found there, within alexman's attached zip file.

Once you have started the game, the settings from the mod are remembered in the file and I don't need to do anything with this mod or I have to?

Ok guys, be patient one or two more days (have lots of things to do right now) ...
Tomorrow I'll download the latest PTW patch (haven't patched it so far --> bought it in Belgium, which version I'll download best?) and the AU MOD and I'll send PM's to the other participants to give my email adress. May I ask the others to do so too?
The day after I'll download start position and ... kick off.

There is no need to download the mod files, beyond wanting to look at the readme; the rules for the game are all contained within the sav I provided.

Since BigDork seems to have PM disabled I guess I will have to brave the threat of spam and post my email address here if I ever wish to play my turn . It's eklektikos@bigfoot.com
