Or because you haven't played the game at all, let alone on transcend, in like a year?
Transcend is fine with me, I'll just probably be still reseraching Centauri Ecology when Archaic transcends.

Part of the reason I'm not going to terribly mind Morgan's low pop limit for bases... anything larger than 4 is a drone riot factory anyway

OK... I will finish my latest LIBRARIAN game and then choose a faction. It won't likely have any of these fancy customised bits though.
Cedayon - you're on. I've never even PLAYED a Transcend game. I bet you I can lose more convincingly than anyone else. I'll see you in the "interrogation" chambers.

And I play as Zak, with Free Market on practically as soon as I discover Industrial Economics. I get a Drone as my 2nd Citizen.
Go me.

Yeah but that drone problem is completely solved once you get the Virtual World. It makes the UoP actually one of the factions where you have to worry least about drones.
Anyway, Archaic, if you are still 'providing' the CMN, could you please ask him to give all land factions an extra colony pod and scout patrol, and me an extra sea colony pod and gun/unity foil?

I'm still not sure *why* we should be getting those, but anyway, we're still waiting on MWIA's faction choice.

To speed the starts of the game up, so we won't be playing weeks with only a couple of bases and units. Isn't that standard practice in your MP games?

If someone could give me one or two pointers on making that custom text file then I'll be able to sort it all out. Looking at Archaic's file and the test brian.txt file with SMAX, I can see much of it, but the formats seem somewhat different and after the TECH part I don't know what many of the parameters are.

Tech part? You mean the bold TECH in the quote above? You aren't allowed to change those. That would change your faction stats. You may only change some harmless text for RP purposes. Most of it can be easily done by the faction editor supplied in SMAX. But I would be willing to make the text changes for you if you tell me what you want to have changed.

Not always, no.
MWIA, stay away from the faction editor and stick to plain text. Faction editor screws everything up. It's too buggy.

*BUMP* (sort of) Apparently TKG hadn't quite finished setting up the factions properly, so here is the revised set:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/peter_green/PBEM.zip
With that out of the way, assumign no-one has anything else to say about the rules, I believe we can get going.

Hello there,
Archaic asked me to be your CMN, and I have accepted. I tried getting a hold of Archaic yesterday (Wednesday evening my time) but have not heard back from him as to my questions. So I have read thru your thread and ascertained that this is to be a SMAX game, with the humans having the following factions:
Archaic - University
Cedayon - Morgan
GeneralTacticus - Morgan
Hercules - Deirdre
Maniac - Pirates
MisterWhereIsItAt - Cyborg
TKG - Morgan (edit: three Morgans - is this right?)
Also, the rules to date are as follows:
Game: SMAX
Do or Die: eliminated players are not restarted
Spoils of War off
Non-Blind (directed) research
No random events
All victory conditions allowed including cooperative. Coop victory is limited to two players (Not including any players made submissive to either of those two).
Unity survey off - map is unknown
Look first on
I'm assuming you want potluck from there, which I can easily provide.
I've told Archaic that, because there are so many players, that it'll take me a little longer to set up this map, simply to ensure a good starting location for all (i.e. I'll play out the game probably about 70 turns, to ensure that no one is at a distinct disadvantage, and I'll keep doing this until I am satisfied that it is a fair game), and so I set a time of no later than a week from this coming Sunday I should have the game up and running.
Finally, anybody got an idea as far as the name for this game, so that I can name the turn tracking thread with it?
D

Well sorry to bother you all, but I'd *still* like to hear the opinion of everyone about giving everybody an extra (sea) colony pod and scout patrol/unity foil, and on a less important note concerning random events. Some have given their opinion, but not all, and none of my proposals is included in Darsnan's post.
For a title: "Clash of Economies" ? Though since Pandemoniak hasn't joined this game, there might not be a clash after all.
