Wow. This speech REALLY blew me away
A reluctant war, he calls it......
That was horrible. I was expecting at least SOMETHING more, but....No evidence for the people, I suppose

State of the Union speeches are completely unwatchable for one reason - a freakin' standing ovation after every two sentences!!! When did that rediculous tradition start?!?

What surprised me was that Hillary Clinton gave him a standing ovation. Who knows, maybe the Senate is planning to make Bush go the way of Caesar...

When I am Emperor, I will tell them to hold their applause until the end.
Or else.

Tass: This speech wasn't suppose to be a "new evidence" speech. Don't you watch the news? Powell is doing that next week.

Another problem I have with Bush is with AIDS, Africa is a mess. It's not a money problem it's a cultural and language problem. In africa, you're not a man if you wear a condom. And it's practicly impossible to adress this issue since there are dozens of languages in a single "country" alone. (I put country in quotes because they change every week, and are usualy always in civil war). This is just my opinion, but if Bush is going to do this he should know better then to just send money, which NEVER sees it's way to the people it is intended to.

Fairly competant but no really memorable lines or inspiring rhetoric. But what really surprised me was all the big spending new programs he was proposing, especially the $15 billion for African AIDs where did that come from?

The usual crap. Promises and more promises. You know I will retire in 40 years and Drug prices will still be an issue. I dont have much faith in bush in domestic issue's. Loved his play on the economy, what a joke. The only new jobs being created are at drive thru's. Nothing worth spouting about.
IMO, His bit about Iraq sounded like there was a Casus Bell. I think War is only a few weeks away.

I've looked at this sentence for a while and I still can't work out how this is anatomically possible given the meaning of "wear".

This tax relief is for everyone who pays income taxes, and it will help our economy immediately. Ninety-two million Americans will keep this year an average of almost $1,100 more of their own money. A family of four with an income of $40,000 would see their federal income taxes fall from $1,178 to $45 per year.

Where does he get this from?

Or have him video conference in from his ranch
Also would like to see a pres to tell everyone to sit down and shut up and camera people who didn't ALWAYS zoom in to a face of the appropriate ethnic groups during the applause (for example AIDs spending annoucement is brought to you by a black guy looking confused and happy)

That's the child tax credit increase at work, work out to actually make taxation more progressive surprisingly enough (although only for breeders of course ).

GOOD speech
Bush does tend to give pretty good speeches. I thought his tax proposals were great, and I really liked his spending ideas (especially money for Africa and hydrogen power research). He laid out the case for going against Iraq fairly well too (to the point where I'm on the fence now).

Ok, now I'm kicking myself for missing the speech. It had to have been damn good considering how strong your opposition was.
