I installed the new version and there is a problem...
When opening new pages it doesnt open them in new windows, even when the "open pages in new window" option is selected.

Okay, I've checked Open Pages in New Window and unchecked Reuse Existing Window.
-New button now creates new Application Windows instead of the usual child Windows
-following a bookmark will open a new Application Window
-entering an address into the F2 dialogue box will open a new Application Window
-hitting enter in the location bar will use the current child Window
I'm going back to my usual settings now.

Doesnt work.
I want to use the right click+mouse down and right click+mouse down+mouse up gestures so that they open new application windows... And after playing with the 4 possible options of the two checkboxes, none of them works.

Go to Preference > Mouse & Keyboard
Edit your Mouse setup.
Change the action of GestureDown from:
Open link in new page | New page
to:
Open link in new window | New browser window
Do the same for the other mouse gestures that you use.

Heh, I just found out that when you click on an image and drag it, it opens the image. Don't know why that would be useful though, especially since somehow I can't get it to open in a new wibndow

ha! finally got it to work in linux. if you're using redhat 9, you'll have to uninstall lesstif-devel and openmotif-devel, upgrade them, and then reinstall the newer updated packages. you'll also have to force installation on one of them.
but thereafter, it should work fine.

Maybe I'm being stupid (in fact that's very likely), but I'm not seeing an option to customize mouse gestures in 7.10 - where is it?

Two questions:
Any way to reduce the footprint? Even with the RAM cache turned off, it still gobbles way to much memory. Just opening the program uses up 12 MB, and right now, with only one single window open, it uses 17. Java is turned off, animated gifs are turned off.
How do I tell it not to display a part of the page which hasn;t finished loading yet? Since I have a fast connection, it drives me nuts to have it resizing everything fifteen times in the first five seconds when I open a new page...
If I can solve one of the two I'll probably switch from IE. The rest looks good so far.

Yep. Me too.
The only time 7.10 crashes is at Apolyton. And it crashes every time I visit.

Oh, one more thing: How do I get rid of the box that pops up when I hold the mouse over a link?

The odd thing is that it works ok at first, but after a while it starts crashing. Then I need to restart to make it work, but again not for long.

In my case, Opera 7.10 has only crashed in Apolyton when I have a dozen windows or so open, but the same thing happens when I open a considerable number of .jpgs too....
Still, at least it's better than IE and mouse gestures rule, indeed.

Why upgrade immediately?
I usualy wait for some time until I upgrade, unless it is a really serious security issue. Still on 7.0 and my next upgrade will be 7.5 or something

I do not think you can reduce the amount of memory opera takes. Perhaps by reducing cache you could get a little? Opera is at 30MB at the moment but I have seen it at 60MB and more. I have 192MB and XP, not really abundance of memory, but I have no problems with it. Bear in mind IE only seems smaller because a big part of it loads with windows.
Zopperoni, do you have a 19 or 21 inch monitor? Seems pretty big. As a 17 inch user myself I prefer removing all unnecessary toolbars to maximize viewing area.
And I thought I'd mention another great feature with Opera - saving sessions. This is really handy when you are searching for something and have to go away, you can pick up where you left
And my pet peeve with all browsers on the market - offline browsing. Opera is not handling it very well either. If I disconnect and want to surf what I have loaded it wont recognize the clicks on the links, I have to go to the history window. Really a pain in the ass.

I have a 17" monitor, running @ 1152*864 resolution. The buttons of this skin are quite small, but I like it that way.
On the memory issue...when I checked earlier, I saw that my Opera was sucking 134 MB
I managed to push it back down to 18 MB.

god, it's so nice to have this browser in linux rather than Konqueror or Mozilla.
don't get me wrong, i like mozilla and all... but it's my backup browser only. i can't live without these mouse gestures.
