Of course that would require such an extensive reworking of the game that you might as well make a new one where civilizations evolve, grow into power, and eventually lose it (as they all inevitably do). Civolution would be a good name....

hi ,
there is a solution to that , in CIV II there are some mods and scen's that make a country split in to two , ...... they could work something out in civ III and lets say that an X percentage of this or that civ splits away to make the US , the same could be done for countries like Brazil and Australia , ........
have a nice day

As for Australia and the Pacific Islands, there are numerous names for them. People call the area Australasia, Oceania, Pacifica, and such.

The official name of the continent is Oceania.
About the "split of countries", I really miss that. In civ2 when you invade a foreign capital the country split in two inmediately. In civ3 the option to the new nations could be others than the original civs, for example; China split in 2: China + Tibet, England split in 2: UK + Australia (or the US???), etc.

well there are still seven open slots for civ's , .....
if someone might be able to sell this idea to Firaxis , .....
when asked in a chat the answer was "we shall see" , nothing further ever since , ......
it would really rock , and we should have the ability to decide what civ's are born when a country splits , howmany cities , money , units , etc , ......

hi ,
nah , when civ II came out no-one thought it would be in it , ....
in the worst case scenario we have to wait until CIV IV to have it again , ....
 , maybe Gramphos could find a solution , .......
there has to be a way , ..... maybe they just simple forgot it , but it could definatly be food for the next expansion patch , ....

You see, Firaxis ought to visit these sites and see what the people want. You could really sell a game based on what the people want.

Nice the idea of a split country like in civ2, I think that the original team of Civ should do the civ4, not new guys like firaxis.
Anyway, the thread ask for US in the game. I support the US to be a civ, but as "my president" has said call the civ "America" is wrong, it should be the entire name or just USA. It would be nice to see the US split in the Anglo States, the French States and the Mexican provinces of the north.

Huh. I wasn't aware that they actually used our ideas. What, exactly, did they use, anyway? Just out of curiosity.

America should be in there sure, but not defaulted as that sissy blue color, and not with Lincoln as the main Leader. It shouldve been someone associated with the Revolution and the DoI like Thomas Jefferson or George-father-of-the-freakin-nation-Washington, or HELL, EVEN OL BEN FRANKLIN. Lincoln gets more props than any prez in history other than maybe FDR

I would lean towards Washington, if only because he was our first.
What would be REALLY nice is if the leader would change as you changed eras. It would reflect whoever was the most powerful/influential leader of that civ as it progressed. Obviously some civs didn't make it to the Modern era, but They could keep their leader, or just reflect a later leader in their history.

Clinton. You just compared one of the best presidents in a long time (Clinton) to an utter Jackass (W). No comparison.
I am sure I just invited all sorts of mayhem upon me for that.....

Not at all, not at all.
But why would Clinton be the last? Someday W will be out of office, and (I Hope) we'll still be a nation--or a civ--or a civoluted amalgam of the western world.
Back to subject --
There's room in the game for many important civs.
America should be included. It is a civilization, even if the cornerstones are Big Macs, Beer, and Baseball. It is what all other civilizations were leading up to, at least at the present time.
As I recall, Rome (what all others were leading up to then) was an amalgam that spread its bread and circuses culture around what it knew as the world.
And all the cultures that produced the UK were an amalgam that gave the world --uhm?-- oh, I know -- fish and chips!

The powers that be never stopped spreading the "culure" of bread and circuses. American Gladiators anyone. or Battlebots for that matter.

Yes. Without a doubt. It doesn't matter that they developed later than other civs. America makes as much sense in the Ancient age as Carthage does in the Modern age.
