I want Plunder
What happened to the good old days of civ 1/2 when it was worth taking a city for other than tactical reasons (or now resource reasons) cause you got advancements and lots of gold now all I get for taking a size 24 is "you have liberated 2 gold" and I can't even use the city. Its hardly realistic either since Plundering used to be a sure fire way of getting rich. Is there something I am doing wrong? Or has everybody noticed it?

Nope, that's the way it works. The amount of gold you get for capturing a city is proportionate to the amount of gold the civ has. Since the AI has very little gold lying around in the early game you don't usually get much.
The way to get techs is to extort them as part of a peace settlement.

Hm, he mentioned a size 24 city, I don't think that there are many of these cities in the early game...
But, anyway, the AI almost never has large sums of money even in the later stages of the game.

Funny you mention it, I kept buying techs from the Egyptians for lots of cash and whenever I looked them up they were low in cash?! . I am not sure what they spend it on but I never really get any money when I conquer any of their cities
So long...
PS: Maybe they all go and deposit it in Swiss Bank vaults; no paper trail, very difficult to trace

Go to the editor, add new civ, call it Switzerland, stop them being able to buld settlers, give them 100,000,000,000 gold to start with, and go and capture Zürich. This will make up for all the other times.

(1) I disliked the plundering of techs in civ1/2. As soon as you discovered mobile warfare some upstart would take one of your smallest outlying cities and steal it from you. And then pass it on to everyone else. The current exchange as part of a peace deal is much more satisfying.
(2) If money is all you want, then that's what you'll recieve. Sell off improvements in the city for gold.
(3) Just captured a size 24 city? conscript! If your in a non-representative government then rush build (then goto 2)
(4) For some, population an territory is reward enough. (pop=score)

No. 3 is evil, burning pop, creating unhappiness, and then selling for a miserable sum of money. I love it.

Almost never, but sometime... I once noticed that Xerxes had more than 30000 gold available.

The great irony of civ3 is that the civs most likely to have big reserves of cash are those in communism because they can't use up spare cash on rush building.

That is ironic.

I agree Albert. If you plunder and destroy a temple, you should get some gold in addition to what was in the city coffers.

I would still like to see a chance of finding technology, maybe 10%?

That could be useful. However, in the mean-time, plant a spy and steal it!

Espionage is really different in Civ3. I mean, the minute you build an Intelligence Agency, you have to worry about enemy spies even if the other civs aren't even close to discovering Espionage. It's crazy.

Thats right. If you have a small chanse of finding them in goody huts, then there should be a chance of discovering them in captured cities

That would certainly give you incentive to go after civs with better technology than you, at least if you have a bigger army.
