I hate ruins
Hola,
I hate ruins. They should look like bits and pieces of columns and structures, here in Mexico City we have some ruins of Tenochtitlan but PTW's ruins look more like the garbage dump across town. They are even bigger in size than the graphic of the destroyed city.
If I delete the graphics file will this be enough, or do I have to paint the graphic file with the magenta bkgnd color so they don't appear?
Anyway, I would love to see someone with graphic abilities making some new cool ruins because the idea isn't bad. Just having 3 or 4 "fragments" lying around would be enough to show there once was a city there but does not block out the base terrain.

Good idea, maybe just some broken columns sticking up.
Anybody know which graphic it is?

Great the idea!! But specific detritus need probably generate a special one for each city style (agh!). Also, why we can abandon a city but an A-Bomb can't destroy a 5 pop city?? With an A-Bomb destroying a city, a crater detritus should appear!
<OFF TOPIC>
BTW, why mexicans renamed the beautiful Tenochtitlan name to the simpliest "Mexico City"? Mexico is independent now, why they doen't restore the aztec culture?

Here you go, I just erased some of the garbage, so they don't completely clutter the terrain tile.

GhengisFarb:
that looks much better, now you can really see the underlying terrain!
For all others interested in using GF's graphics or editing their own, the ruins files are in
\CIV2PTW\Art\Cities
there are also other ruins files in
\Art\City View\Miscellaneous
but I don't know what they're used for.
XarXo:
When the Spanish conquered the Aztecs, they pretty much razed the city and renamed it Mexico City, originally Tenochtitlan had been build in an island in the middle of a huge lake. The spanish dried up the lake and kept on building on it. By the time of independence in the 1820's most of the lake was dried up and nothing remained of the ancient city.
During the 1960's and 70's when the subway was being constructed in downtown, they discovered many ruins of what was once Tenochtitlan, over a block of ruins was dug out of the ground and is open to the public.
As for why we haven't re-renamed the city Tenochtitlan, well, IMO, the Mexico of today is a blend of both Indian and European cultures and the city reflects it, most of the old historical buldings (and there are thousands, Mexico City has the largest historical core in the entire western hemisphere) are a blend of spanish-colonial style with indian motifs and art here and there which spring up in the decorations since most of the workers were indian. Maybe it is for these reasons that even though Tenochtitlan was a great and beutiful city, our reality is that it no longer exists and in its place is another city which regardless of its countless problems is one we are proud of (at least us locals.. )
here's some links on the ruins if you're interested:

I agree with the comments about the ruins. But let's face it, it was more annoying in the old version when you would destroy a city and there was nothing left.
The ruins should be different based on the era and the culture group. Not to mention on city size. But maybe that's something they'll get to in the next update.

The image is of poor quality because I had to convert the file to jpg format, using the standard Windows tools for editing and viewing images.

About JPG problems:
Apolyton accept PNG format? Is by far great in quality, but usually is heavier in size.
About Tenochtitlan:
Very, very, very sad... *sniff* What could happen to Rome if it stayed more time under germanic control? Romburg?

I was so pleased to see the ruins that I didn't care about the lousy graphics..The new graphics looks great, can't wait to try them
Alexnm, I can recomend irfanview, a shareware tool for viewing and converting loads of different image formats. GIF's are excellent for most civ-graphics.

raguil_79,
I am like bongo in that I was just so excited to finally have ruins that I didn't much care what they looked like.
However, eventually they do start to "ruin" (pun intended) the landscape. I usually just plant a forest over the ruins (if the square is not w/in a city radius) otherwise I work the tile for the benefit of my city.
But now, thanks to GhengisFarb, I have the ultra cool ruins graphics to use. Perhaps I'll plant forrest around the ruins now.....

GhenghisFarb:
why don't you post your graphic in the files section? Its really good and I'm sure more people will want to have it after this thread is dead.

I'll add my thanks... Thanks Ghengis!
It's nice to be able to see the terrain and improvements under the ruins finally. No more garbage heaps cluttering the landscape!
