I had to vote for Xerxes- it had a fastmoving style. The beginning was blah, but then after the firstr 2 pages- it really improved!
The converstaions were short and sweet

Ive gone with Postmortem but it was indeed tough, and it goes to show the great standard of work there is on this forum.
Every one of these stories is a winner to my mind but alas we have to choose, and there can be only one!

Well, 17 people so far seems like quite a bit to me. Taking into consideration how some of the previous contests went.
Now, I am wondering here. We have a three-way tie for first. If things stay the same, are we still going to have a two-day runoff? It doesn't seem too fair to me, since the finals should have four stories, and then the runoff would have three stories, yet only two days to vote. Maybe if that is the case by sunday, you would consider lenghtening the period for this particular runoff, dc?

Xerxes might still gain another vote in the two days left. Biting your fingernails already, King? Wait till the runoff if it comes...

Hmm... I seem to have been neglecting the rules... the last run-off was held for 7 days- and civman's first runnoff was held for 7 days as well???
I suppose if it happens twice, we may as well change the rules to 7 days
(3 way tie for first with 5 votes...)
Only 4 days to go...

OK, this is not funny any more. I said that Xerxes might gain another vote, and there and then somebody voted for it! Eek!
Tell ya what: postmortem will get three more votes.
And DC, it's three days. The drama gets more intense...

This current situation does not surprise me one bit, there is some quality reading here and it is hard to choose.
I had expected laz's story to get a higher share of the vote and would of voted for it myself if it were not fot vovansim's great Postmortem 2000 Years.
Even then it is still a very hard choice and this only proves that this forum is alive and well and producing the best fiction and drama Ive seen, and of course comedic works as well.

Thanks for the comments, CM. Frankly, I'm surprised to have got this far with what is a modular story rather than an evolving drama that draws the reader into a developing story. Think about it- people's favourite TV shows tend to be serials or series with a common core rather than a selection of loosely-linked one-offs, and that's entirely understandable.
The fact that two people voted for it even at this level is reward enough. Thanks for that- it makes the effort all the more rewarding.
Best of luck to all involved.

Oh no! 3-way tie
I'll see about getting another poll up- if the nominations thread is moving ahead- I'll wait until I can do a news item... but if the nominatiosn thread is stagnating, I'll see if mark will publish a short piece... I'll wait until tommorrow to decide...
My gosh a historical last-round-tie
-Congratulations to all who voted/participated

Doubly so, DC. The first time there are two consecutive runoffs, and the first three-way tie. It's a pity it's not a tie of six votes each. It was such an interesting trend, and now it is broken.

Well, I am going to be away for the next week, and most likely will not post anything, or even visit the forums. So, please don't start the the runoff if it will expire before next monday - 10th of March... I would like to see it in progress, and not just the final votes.
