I do find it interesting that Europeans are expected to take regular punches and name calling, but when the shoe suddenly shifts to the other foot, the Europeans are bein' jealous & trolling.

Yes... lots of regular punches for the Euros .

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot to shout
"ANTI-EUROPEAN TROLL!! FFS HOW LAME!!1!"
or you'd have remembered that there have been several anti-European threads in just the last week.

Demerzel:
Pick any given week on 'poly.
Count the number of USA bashing threads.
Count the number of Europe bashing threads.
Compare them.
Notice any trends?
On pretty much any week you care to name, the USA bashing threads outnumber the Eurocom....erm....Euro bashing threads by a pretty healthy margin. You *sure* you wanna stand by your post?
Hersh: I agree with you in looking at broader media....but just talking about 'poly....the Euros dish out a steady dose, but were quick to cry uncle on this thread.....second, third post in reply was it?

Well, if that Dennis Prager really thinks that this is 'What the world would like the President to say', then yes, compared to him, GW Bush is a genious.
I'm a little bit afraid that the correct title should sound 'The thoughts I put in other's heads to confirm/justify my ignorance/hate of them'.

Nahhh, on that score, I thought he was pretty much spot on. What made it a poor parody was how close it hit home.
The French, especially, have made a habit of walking and talking the whole apeasement line in the ME (shocking, since we saw how utterly successful that was in WWII).
So yes! The bent of the message we're hearing is: "Ohhhh, drop the big bad wolf routine, USA! The problem would go away if you'd simply join hands with Saddam and sing a couple verses of Kumbayah with him! And if he gasses his own people....the way to make him STOP IT isn't to scold him...we just misunderstand his intention....the real way to make him stop is to reward the behavior with business contracts."
MmmmHmmm.

and by the way....we KNOW, from looking at world opinion today, that the one thing the rest of the world doesn't want us to do is to stand up to him (and presumedly, any missile-lobbing freak). Nahhh....let's just play kissyface with 'em, right?
Oh...I'm well aware of the counters, and I even agree with them.
The US MUST be consistent in its actions.
But Sadaam is a bad seed. We helped make him.
Now it's time to unmake him.

If you can't see the difference between attacking the leader of a nation and attacking its population in general, then you're as stupid as most Americans.

Well if the US position were "We want Saddam to disarm, as a last resort we'll go to war", that would cause a lot less problems. But the Bush admin chickenhawks have been searching an excuse for attacking Iraq since they came to power, so the assurances from Bush and co carry zero credibility. Especially if their scenario for after the war is "We'll hold hands with jubilating Iraqis and will pump happily ever after".

If that is what you think, then OK, continue to think it.
"Yes, we think Saddam is philanthropic and GW Bush is Satan".
Does that sound logic to you? Do you really think we think that way? Do you really think THE WHOLE WORLD think that way?
Those who think that way, like that author of the article, need to buy a (new) brain.

Of course, remembering our discussion re: the US Tax Code the other week, I chose A and B.

Actions speak louder than words, Dry.
If the rest of the world was sooooo enormously worried about the ME in general, and Iraq in particular, then why all the flap when somebody takes a stand against him (Iraq/Saddam)?
The preferred Euro method for dealing with Iraq has been apeasement (you guys really need a new playbook!)
And how well has appeasement worked? 'bout as well as it worked on Hitler, maybe?
Perhaps....just perhaps....it's time to try something new.
Something harsher.
But don't worry....you won't have to get your hands dirty if you don't want to....we'll take care of it, and in the process, further cement world opinion that we're warmongering b@stards (which of course we are)!
But, there'll be one less bully on the block.
