Against Solaris? Is this some twisted form of Tuomerehuan or even DBSTian logic?
What's your problem with Solaris

I know Solaris as a planet in Asimov's robot universe. But that's all.
Oh yes: for those that didn't read the name thread: the ethymological roots of Subruna:
sub = under, below (Latin again)
runa = adaption of "The Ruins"

Solaris in Asimov? Can't remember that.
Solaris is, however, a planet (or a space station?) in a novel of the same name by Stanislaw Lem. A play and a film have been made based on it.
Also, Solaris is the "Eden of Heaven", a technologically very advanced nation that lives in a large city (also called "Solaris") on the sky (or some dimensional fold, IIRC), in the PlayStation RPG Xenogears.
More here: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?...7&nodeid=17149
(they lack the Xenogears part, either I am incorrect on that one or there's E2 XP waiting to be earned)

If we're doing XG names I would go for Nisan... but I wouldn't want everyone thinking we misspelled the name of the car company ... Shevat's cool too, but Solaris is probably better.

Once again, I've voted for Sierra Nova; it's my favorite name of any that have been proposed, and the new region will be somewhat mountainous -- although not nearly as much so as Jedinica.

I voted for Sierra Nova. I'd be happy to see either that or Solaris as the new region's name, so I voted for the one with less votes.

I thought about Shevat too, but decided that Solaris would garner more support since it's better known amongst people, not just Xenogears players.

Xenobanana ! For the sake of Tarkovski, let Solaris be the name of the region. But we need a base named Xenobanana ort else they will disappear from the Planet

You voted only for Solaris, it is not a multiple choice poll.

Solaris has been ruined for me - I saw a trailer for the remake with George Clooney. Pwahgh ! Will the Americans remake all the great Russian films? What next? A remake of Battleship Potemkin? If the region is called Solaris, then I will always be remined of this fact.
Its time Xenobanana won a poll.

War of Art, oh, I really feel bad that because of a silly American film, you will never be able to enjoy the excellence that is Solaris.
But you still shouldn't have voted for "Xenobanana". Goodness' sake, what's gone into you? It's a nonsense poll option, not a region name.

Well having read the book and seen the original film, I'm just so disgusted about the remake that I HAVE to vote Xenobanana. That's the purpose of Xenobanana - to register protest. And I'm protesting against the Hollywood vultures that can't think of any new ideas.
By the way, has anyone read the Cyberiad from ol'Stanislaw Lem ? I think it's his best book.

Besides, who wants their children to live even in a place named after that floating hive of atrocities known as Solaris? That red guy might come by and blow it all away on principle
*neglects to mention that he voted for Solaris, before the light of the banana was known to him*
