How Long Is the Typical Civ Game?
I'm curious how long it takes others to play an "average" CivIII game (not muliplayer)?
By average I mean standard map and settings with 7 AI opponents. It seems to take me a long time to play a game but I don't use governers and tend to micromanage everything. I'm also a builder and not a war-monger.
In addition to the poll, please post some comments.

I usually play a huge world. Last game was over 84 hours elapsed time. It was a military victory.

My Deity game, playing about 4 hours a day, huge world map with 31 civs, with the DyP tech tree, has lasted about 3 weeks now and I'm only just finishing the Ancient Age
EDIT: Note to self: next time, read the first post rather than just the thread title

Me too. That'd make me a notch under the 20+ category. Still trying to wean myself off the huge maps.

60 hours, Large map with 11 AI civs. But I directly control all my workers and if the game lasts for weeks or months, it's alright with me.

Standard map w/ 7 civs would take me approx 35-50 Hrs to complete,
But I play on a huge map (180x180) with 16 civs) This game will usually last me a few months at least (my record is about 400 hrs playing time, 3.5 months)

I try to finish in one evening, after I got fed up with my old slow computer, so lots of OCC's and small map horsie rushes for me... so less than 5 hours. But now my new machine is here I'm starting a custom 256x256 (?-Maximum size) map with 31 civs on Emperor.... that's going to take a verylong time

I'm a very slow player too, so definitely more than 20 hours for me.

I've never made it to the end of a civ game, other than by cultural victory, and that always happened to quickly, so I turned it off.

Last game I finished on a standard map was just over 30 hours. Well into the modern age, the cultural win popped up just before I would have had domination.
(My PIII 450 can only handle standard maps, large maps would take twice as long with the waiting between turns )

(Alexnm, in PTW it shows you at the end of the game how much time was spent, hours minutes & seconds)

Jaybe, do you get the time in ALL your PTW-games? Or is it only multi-player.
I fear that the result will scare me....

Since I never automate workers, my games take a long time--plus my computer's not that fast to begin with.

I always close my eyes when I get there. It is good for my mental health, as CP said.

I usually play large or huge maps and never more than 5 civs. With these settings it always takes me more than 20 hours. I take my time with the game.
So long....

I just downsized to a standard map after months and months of huge maps. What a difference!
Anyway, my game is in the Modern Era now, and one turn is taking 10 to 15 minutes just to move my units, check various cities, etc. Of course, I'm going for a domination win, so there's lots of warfare involved. So I'm well over 20 hours.

Never played anything less than a huge map, and I play the game as an epic that last for weeks, usually greater than 80 hours of play time.

Main games:
50--70 hours average.
Huge Map--Regent
4 to 6 weeks
8-11 civs (+my own)
The odd regicide game on a small map:
Monarch
4 civs +
2 hours--I always lose.

Until I perfect my huge-map personal mod, I've been playing only on small maps play testing the rules. My current game has been played for 6 hours and I'm into the Modern age.
