I guess Canada proves it's superiority over the US again if they don't know what sweetest day is.

Sweetest Day ...
Is always the third Saturday in October.
This holiday is much more important in some regions than in others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo being the biggest Sweetest Day cities). It is a holiday that is gaining in popularity every year throughout the country.
How It Started
Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland man, believing that the city's orphans and shut-ins too often felt forgotten and neglected, conceived the idea of showing them that they were remembered. He did this through the distribution of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he distributed these small remembrances on a Saturday in October. During the years that followed, other Clevelanders began to participate in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called "Sweetest Day". In time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the underprivileged was broadened to include everyone, and became an occasion for remembering others with a kind act or a small remembrance. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country.
What It Is
Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged, and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.
Sweetest Day is not based on any single group's religious sentiment or on a family relationship. It is a reminder that a thoughtful word or deed enriches life and gives it meaning.
Because for many people remembering takes the form of gift-giving, Sweetest Day offers us the opportunity to show others that we care, in a tangible way.
[This information was adapted from material provided by the Retail Confectioners International.]
Yes and women have globbed onto this one in the attempt to extort more gifts/treats from husbands. Girlfriends are equally guilty.
Or as most people say, "a bogus halmark holiday" to generate more card sales.

Hey, the last three lines were mine. a good summary of why we hate it.
Anyway, After my date i'll check on to see if anybody is around. A late game might be nice. That would be my reward for taking my wife out.

Joining MP games?
Figured this might be the right place to start. Been playing civ2 for years, but only really with local friends from the area. Just met one other guy, Xyvyr, and he told me about this site to look for games. Yes, yes, I know I sound like a newbie, but only when it comes to looking for games.
So I guess my question is, how do you guys connect for games? Can anyone join or are their lists and what not? Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
Skivrmt
PS - My wife is due with our first in 2 weeks, so I'm trying to get as much "playtime" in now

We always welcome fresh meat... I mean new players.
This thread is for setting up games that use Rah Rules...
You might want to check the thread in this forum that discusses what they are. If they sound fine to you, then you are in the right place. There are usually open games on Friday and Saturday nights, and sometimes during the week. Just post your interest level in this thread, and see what happens. Much of the communications are done by ICQ.
Good luck.

As usual, I won't be around until the late game. My wife has already had a long day, so maybe she will crash early. But the best I can hope for is 10 pm... and in reality, probably more like 1030 or 11pm. sigh... Enjoy the early game.

I was frankly surprised nobody had philo yet. Since we were a few minutes away from ending, your dropping didn't really matter much. But what is the problem. I thought you had all the problems solved?

Well, I'm going to the riverboat Friday afternoon, so depending on how long it takes me to lose all my money, I'm not sure when I will make it to Ming's. In past trips I've made it there between the normal time and 9:00. But I can't make guarentees. Maybe I can call ming when I'm leaving which would give him about an hour's notice. We'll see.

Since I missed you guys last week, I'd love to possibly catch a game this week with you. A couple of quick questions about the RAH rules and how you guys usually set up your games.
This is how I think I understand them, but please clarify any and all mistakes! Don't wanna do some that is considered cheating, at least not in my first game.
Great Wall is fine, as long as there are at least 4 players. Hanging Gardens fine regardless. Unit bribing ok, but city bribing not allowed. Do you restart is someone starts on the N/S poles? How about if the hosts receives some "extra" goodies, ie, tech and/or settlers? If someone loses connection, is the game saved or is that person just suppose to rejoin? I have been basically playing the same rules, if you can believe that, for years (except the city bribing), but the last few questions could be slightly different than what we usually play.
Thanks for any help!
-Skivrmt (Mark)
PS - I was just thinking, since I basically have been using the same basic rules as the RAH for years, and I just found this site about a month ago, that says something about the rules, don't ya think?? We have always played 2x1, small rock, 3 billion yrs, etc. The only minor difference I guess is the small land mass we like to use, puts more weight on Navy instead of just land armies, but a pretty minor difference.
