It's a wierd town in a lot of ways. Despite its self-assured liberal credentials it is filled with trust fund money and a truly pukeable willingness to persecute everyone who doesn't live up to wealthy ivory towered white liberal idealism. San Francisco may be a liberal city, but at least it comes by it honestly and walks the walk more often than not.
I'm planning on getting out of here some day, but my girlfriend and I are too dependent upon our present jobs and too divided on where to go to make it happen any time soon.

The oil reserve figures after taking into account bitumen extraction are still well above even Saudi Arabia's reserves by a good margin, and they're still making more discoveries.

Dammit, Asher, we're trying to convince them NOT to conquer us!

You realize that if you annex Canada, you're adding ten states that will consistently vote Democratic (well, okay, Alberta will go to the Republicans).

Sad but true... Ours is the province of wasted potential.

It's kinda weird when the province with "wasted potential" has the strongest economy.
Where're you from?

Democratic? I thought our constitution guaranteed that the states be Republican?

Yeah, but we don't use our money for any of the worthwhile social programs. We just keep privatizing.
You'd think in a time of economic prosperity, we'd want to spread the wealth throughout our population, because we may not have the dollars to do that when the oil industry becomes less profitable (I'm not even saying "dies out totally" this time).

If we spread out money into social programs it does absolutely nothing in the event of the oil industry becoming less profitable.
That's why they're putting lots of the revenues into large funds so it's easy to weather boom & bust cycles better.
