WinMX isn't any better.
Everyone knows eDonkey/Overnet is how you get software...

The new eDonkey client is much better, it supports Overnet and eDonkey networks simulataneously.
Tass: Overnet is basically the next-generation eDonkey. You don't need to screw around with a server.met file, it figures it all out on its own. You just launch it, it connects and updates its own server index, then you can search and download.

Haven't tried the new eDonkey client yet, but might want to, sometime in the future (Got other things on my mind at the moment)
Btw, wasn't this thread about SimCity 4, or was the thread title just to confuse the enemy?

I might have to give that a try.... but I switched to eMule because the donkey wasn't working very well for me anymore. The last file I got with it took me three weeks and I don't think it was even 500mb. Now that I'm using eMule again, it's going aswell as eDonkey did when I first started using it - can get most files in a night or two. (I just wish so many people didn't set their upload to 10, the stingy bastards. )

Every bit helps. My upload is capped at 20, but that is still twice as much as most people give.
I used to be able to get 60 up and 300 down when I lived in my old apartment and had first discovered eDonkey.
now my upload can't get past 20, and the download - despite being capable of much more - averages on 20-30, but only when the file is shared enough that I don't get stuck with mere 1-2kb downloads.
People also need to clean out their shared folders. With uploads capped at 10 and qeues a mile long, it's no wonder that it's become so stagnate these days.

I used to set a cap on 5-10 kb/s back in the days (= last year), but that was because I had to pay per mb I used (download + upload), so I tried to keep my expensive upload down, but now I don't pay more nomatter how much I download/upload so I have it full speed)...

I just got SC4 yesterday and all ive learnt atm is to build a **** load of zoning before building any government buildings (beyond the necessary power/water/transport etc), the upkeep costs are massive! My first city i didnt build my first small fire station until all my industrial sector was on fire. lol

Actually, I tried building a city like Yin said - without water, and that works quite fine - I've started a new one, and so far have a population of 14.000 yet they have no water. They don't seem to need it at first.

I try to avoid guides of any sort now, it really ruined my first few plays with sc3k to know what to do before i figured it out myself, its half the fun.

Sounds interesting... i never considered that, i thought water would be vital for at least residential buildings.

I agree actually. To me, it almost feels like cheating to read some strategy guide before I try the stuff myself. It's no fun that way. Then again, when you are stuck, and the game becomes frustrating and not fun, then you gotta do what you gotta do.

I agree, sometimes guides kills the fun... but I just had to read on how to get those busstops to work... my sims would never use public transportation (And this was both in SC3000 and SC4)

This works, yes, but I'd call this cheating, since I know I wouldn't want to live in a city, where you know they wont install water anytime soon...

And you read that where? I have the same problem, you see... The busstops and train stations are never used more than 10%... And subways are just always empty.

I wouldn't call this cheating... Because look at the wealth of the sims that come to a city with no water. It's waaay down there. In any other city, they wouldn't have enough money to find a home, and here, since there are no basic amenities, the land value is so cheap, everyone can afford it. I can see people choosing an apartment with no water as opposed to the street for home.
