I have a morality question . . . .
Do you ever treat people the way you yourself, would hate to be treated?
How often do you treat people the way you yourself would really like to be treated?

In any case the answer is yes 90% of the time. Believe it or not I do treat people as I like to be treated. At work I don't go saying bad things about people behind their back. Even though the coworkers I talk to do it all the time. As soon as someone leaves the conversation they start making fun of them. I don't do this.

I don't treat people the way I would like to be treated, but that's because I know I don't deserve to be treated as well as I would like.

That idea is the basis of all my political, ethical, and moral beliefs. I treat others how I expect to be treated... but it isn't an all encompassing doctrine of behavior. I judge each situation individually. But I'm human and make mistakes.

I try as much as I can to treat others like I'd like to be treated ; or at least not to hurt them like I'd hate to be hurt. By the same token, when I hurt someone, I would consider it fair if someone does me the same in the future.
Consequently, I may hurt someone by doing something that I would like to get : for example, I enjoy being frank, and my friends being frank with me, but not everybody enjoys it
This principle is at the core of my political beliefs (such as the support to welfare state) and helps defining my social behaviour (such as sharing as much as I can on a p2p network). A really important value everyone should teach thei Children IMHO.

You mean there are ways you would like to be hurt?
Because when you said, ". . . not to hurt them like I'd hate to be hurt . . ." that seems to imply that there are other ways you would like to be hurt?

Not exactly : there are some things that will not hurt me (like talking excessively frankly), but that will hurt other people. I tend to measure others by my own stick, so I generally do to others what I would like them do to me. But in some circumstances, by doing so, I hurt them.
There are also occurences when my egoism or shortsightedness takes over, and I hurt others for my sake. It is weakness.

It wasn't meant in a reference to Gays.
It was North-South bashing.
We've done it a hundred times.

I don't blame MrFun for having what contempt for the South he does. Let's see what great things happen in the South. South Carolina is flying the Confederate flag; a piece of garbage that I would wipe my ass with. An obscure, moronic judge in one of the Southern states brought the ten commandments into a government courthouse. And the majority of the Southern voters voted for Bush.
One good thing about the South, as I mentioned in the Texas thread, is that they supply us evil liberal northerners with great entertainment on Cops.
MrFun's quarrels with the South stem from their basic immorality. Not his own.
But don't think that I'm a "southaphobic" or anything like that. I have family that lives in the Atlanta area. And it's not so much the South that has a higher percentage of morons than the rest of the country. It's rural areas altogether. Believe me, there are a lot of dumbass backwards-ass people living in the outlying Chicago suburbs.

Sava, that was an incredibly insulting post. By painting the South with such an incredibly broad brush, you show yourself to be no better--and possibly considerably worse--than the Confederate apologists and others you rail against. I may catch hell for saying this, but posts like that make me ashamed that you and I both call ourselves "liberal."

Don't worry about the insult--Sloww is still sounding all the words out. The insult hasn't sunk in yet.

How often do you treat people the way you yourself would really like to be treated?
Only when they want to be treated that way. Unfortunately, the idiots want to be treated the way I hate to be treated far too often. I've given up the hope of abolishing certain needless daily rituals by not being the one who initiates it.

It depends. To those who show me respect I show respect in return.
I probably should do better than that, but I am only human, not Vulcan.

I try to treat everyone fair and with respect. I believe that every person are kind of an opportunity for me, they might have something I could really benefit from, so treating another person like crap is like turning a possible opportunity down to me. This doesn't mean I only look to exploit people, it means that I don't treat the people I don't like badly, because it can't be to my benefit, however if I treat them good, they might return a favor one day.
