Poll on Issus, SMC.
Vote for your favourite parts of the latest:
REPORT of the SUPREME MILITARY COMMANDER!
Stuff to build now:
citywalls in Kazan
fighter in Quinsay
calvary in Naples.
ISSUS:
We currently have Veteran Dragoon and a spy.
We have several options available to us.
Should we abandon Issus to save resources from the Celts, or should we continue to defend Issus and consolidate the garrison with citywalls and riflemen.
Naval upgrades:
2 more cruisers to bring us to 9.

If we trade with the Celts, Cremona is probably a better launching pad than Issus. Especially if we get city north of high tower. As i've suggested before, I prefer defending cities, but if we abandon it we should let it be destroyed rather than captured.
Navy is good as is, depending on the number of high seas transports.
And the builds for the Mongol colonies look good

i must say this is one poll that i think will be very hard to interpret.
Anyways: I voted to abandon Issus, build a bigger navy, including several transports, rush the defensive structures near the mongols.

Issus is valuable becaquse it distracts the Celts from the rest of our cities.

At least i am not not the only one who wanted a more robust Banana Defence Initiative..... However such an initiative should be deployed on a limited basis to avoid another non-banana arms races, especially amongst 'european allies'....

More navy is a good idea. A battleship or two, even. We need better convoy escorts!

[Homer]
mmm...Battleships
[/Homer]
Cruisers work best for escorts, but Battleships are certainly a possibility.
Any one else favour production of battleships to rule the seas?

not for escort duty, they would slow down the transports. Maybe for hanging around on the mongol coast line though. but we would need to build such a ship now or it wouldn't be useful during this game because it would take so long to get to the mongol continent

Forget the battleships, once the AI get rocketry you can kiss them goodbye with cruise missiles, of which the AI version appears to have infinite range.
As an alternative suggestion, perhaps start building BS then switch to Aegis?
Just a thought....

Seems people are in agreement. AEGIS cruisers are the best escorts for transports.
When do you want our reports, Ixnay?
