Why do so many conservative whackos have their own radio talk show?
and more importantly why don't I have a radio talk show? I'm a libertarian whacko. We need more of those type of talk shows. I wonder what it would take to create talk show. I suppose it would take listeners, which wouldn't be easy.

It would be so interesting!

Diss, it's a strategy the media employs to counter the constant bleating of the right wing about the liberal bias of the media.
God only knows how liberally biased CNN is. They openly cheer for war and mock the anti-war Euro countries while their viewing audience is far less convinced...

And whenever ratings would suffer I'd jump into an interesting discussion on quaternions, vectors, matrices, and vertex shaders.

Quaternions?
Good stuff. What do you use them for? I imagine they could represent rotations fairly easily...

Yeah, mostly in 3D rotations. They are better than 3x3 rotation matricies 'cause they require much less storage (4 floating points vs 9) and some other reasons.

Of course. For 2d rotation you would represent with 2X2 rotation matrix
Ummm...for 3X3 matrix wouldn't you only require 6 points? The rest are mandated by requirement that it actually represent a rotation...

The computer still requires all 9 data values of the 3x3 matrix to be filled with some number, whether they're used or not.

We always worked with quaternions as a simple example of a non-commutative group that at least has a bit of interior structure...

This is perhaps the most offtopic I've ever been in a thread.
I'll pop up a new thread.

Because stations cater to their audience, and it happens that a lot of active conservaties listen to the radio, moreso than liberals. IIRC, even a lot of liberals listen to convservative radio. I think it's a phenonmena of not having engaging liberal hosts. Would anyone call Mario Cuomo or Jim Hightower engaging hosts.....anyone? I didn't think so.

That's the answer in a nutshell. The stations are there to make money, advertising provides that money, affluent frequent radio listeners attract the advertisers, and for better or worse, conservative talk show hosts appeal to those listeners, in large numbers.

I would listen to Cuomo anytime, any where on any subject. A great speaker and a brilliant mind!
But to answer the question posted in the thread:
The reason so many conservative wackos have their own radio talk shows is because megacorporations have been buying up the American media, and these megacorporation have a vested interest in pushing the ultra-conservative agenda-- You know tax cuts for the ultra wealthy and deregulation of corporations. So they recruit these conservative wackos to go on the air and complain of liberal bias.

Because the media is owned by conservative whackos. I'm sick of hearing there's a liberal bias to the media because it doesn't exist.

Would you prefer that they had someone else's shows? Would you feel better if they took over Oprah, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Good Morning America, Montel, and so on?

There are liberal radio people too. But for some reason it's Hannity and Limbaugh who get all the attention.
On TV, the bias is very slightly liberal. I'd say that ABC and CBS are liberal, Fox is conservative, and NBC is moderate. However, the biases of the TV networks are miniscule compared to the radio people. Dunno why that is.

I don't know if he got any exposure nationwide, but for at least 20 years the very liberal Michael Jackson (no relation whatsoever to the pop star) had a morning talk show in Los Angeles. In national syndication there's Tom Leykis; he's pretty much non-political these days, but he used to take positions that were either liberal or libertarian. He still opens each hour by saying "This is the radio talk program that is. . . NOT hosted by a right-wing wacko or a convicted felon."

if you want liberal radio.
My guess would be the reason they have conservative talk show hosts is because there is an audience for it.

No, seriously, the real reason is because they are ENTERTAINING! Conversial comments makes for very entertaining radio. Hell, I know socialists that listen to Hannity and Limbaugh because they find it entertaining.

Well, around here you have Ron Kuby (one half of "Curtis and Kuby" on WABC in New York), Lynn Samuels, and Richard Bey (one half of "Marlsburg and Bey, plus his own show, on WABC in New York). Richard Bey had the "Richard Bey Show" and "9 Broadcast Plaza" on WWOR - TV back in the early nineties.

An exception may be made for Rev. Al Sharpton
