Destroying the UN
Ok I’m in an interesting situation in my current game, to cut a long story short, me the most powerful civ along with 3 allied civ’s are at war with the Egyptians, anyway I’m suffering from major war wariness and I would like peace, there lies the predicament and the question: the Egypt has the UN, if I sign peace with them and betray my allies then, they wouldn’t back me in the UN vote, which Egypt wont call while at war.
The only option is to race to Thebes and burn it and the UN to the ground…. My question is this does the destruction of the UN, null the Vote? In addition, is it a true assumption to assume the Egyptians wont call a UN vote whiles at war with me and 3 other civs? and is it true to assume that if I break my alliances and sign a peace my allies wont vote for me?

The vote shouldn't happen if the U.N. is destroyed.
The Egyptians might call a vote they might not. It is sometimes hard to tell what the A.I. will do.
Breaking your alliance shouldn't hurt you all that much, though someone else will need to answer this one.

I'm pretty sure that if you raze the UN you raze the chance for diplomatic victory. But you needn't to go so far. I think that if you just capture it you have the chance of vote in your hands.

anyway im thinking a quest to destroy the UN might be a viable tactic in all my games for stopping the vote, sign alliances with most other civs against whoever builds it on the turn its built....

In my experience, breaking an alliance (or perhaps especially multiple alliances at once) at least can make your former allies Furious with you.

Do like US: Ignore it. Or like France: Block it.

I won't see why? If Washington was razed, would you be mad because the UN was razed or because Washington was razed?

Actually New York which is where UN actually is... but yeah, Beren makes a good point. Razing is razing, and it's evil if there's a UN there or not.

Why can't one just raze a wonder no matter what's around it?

You would be mad for both reasons the way I see it. Diplomats from all countries would be present in the city with the UN, meaning that if that city was razed, citizens of all countries could be killed (and very influential ones at that).

Razing is evil, but the world opinion would be even angrier in tone if some of their influential citizens were also killed.

Erhm, this thread isn't about the real world UN. It's about the UN in Civ III.

ottok seems angry. Well, everyone does these days.
Razing UN should result in some deep, DEEP, but really DEEP restrictions to the player who did it. To the point of making victory much, much, MUCH more difficult, since everybody, including your own people, would probally refuse and protest this vile act.

If you attempt to raze the UN they'll send the feared weapons inspector unit who will force your nukes to disband unless you keep moving them to a different city every turn.
