I take it that you're on a civilised time zone, hmm? Its a pain playing SMAC with Americans. You end up very tired, and they are still fresh. Why can't we all be on GMT? Australians would just have to go to work in the dark.
|
And we Canadians would start at midnight, finish at 8am and sleep the afternoon.

I'm having good fun in Neverwinter Nights. If you really like to play RPGs multiplayer, then I highly recommend it. If not, then consider it but it might not be the best choice.

If you played on hard it should be no pushover. And since 1.03 you can set the comp in 1v1's to a new 'insane' level. Also there is MP.

NHL 2003 is the best NHL game available on the PC, but NHL 2K3 is by far a better NHL game. It's only available on consoles though, which are apparently too difficult for you to use.

Really guys, what do you think about GalCiv? Do you know about any GalCiv specific forum (maybe we should have one here)?
I read the interview on Apolyton where the project lead explained why they made it SP only. Based on my Civ3/PtW experience, I totally agree with him. I also concluded earlier that the main problem with Civ3 is the idiotic AI. Lo and behold, the GalCiv team seems to be focusing on creating a clever AI. Am I being suckered in by the marketing machinery here or what?!
On the less-than-bright side certain things seem to be a bit rough in this game. For example the resources, which were a great invention of Civ3, have less than a perfect "story" in GalCiv, IMHO.
As a side question, am I correct in thinking that there is no predefined tech tree in MOO3 and not only the research speed is randomized to a certain level but tech order is also a bit different in every game? This seems to be a great idea.

I don't believe any talking about a clever AI, before I see it. During the making of The Settlers IV, there was much talking about the AI was much better, since they now ("now" as in "back-then now") has had 3 programmers, who only worked on the AI (In The Settlers III, they only had one)... at the end, the AI was just as stupid, as in The Settlers III...

This is another interesting aspect I have been thinking about lately. AFAIK a single programmer was responsible for the whole AI in Civ3 as well.
I must be missing something but I think I would put about 80% of programming resources on the AI if I wanted to develop a turn based strategy game. I mean the rest of Civ3 (from a programming point of view, not the graphics and "story") looks like what, a relaxed semester project for a CS major?
Perhaps I should get into the gaming business!?!

At present time: No
The reason: I have no idea what it is
Second reason: GalCiv? Does that mean GalacticCivization? If that's the case, then No... "Galactic" is not an interesting theme for games, I'd say...

well, they do make it sound really good. everyone that has played the beta version has been very positive(i don't think i've seen a negative post), so i'm starting to believe what they say about it. even if only half is true it'll be an awesome game.

Syberia was an interesting game demo.
It's an adventure game of the type that hasn't been seen in a while.
I haven't played the full game, but the demo was interestingly different.

I d/l'ed the demo for Splinter Cell the other day. WOW! What a surprise! This game is much better than I expected it to be. The full game is being released today in theU.S., I'll be buying it before the weekend.
This is a very fun, atmospheric game. Give the demo a try, you'll probably end up buying it!

i played simcity2000 several times, enough to make me satisfied with it. First i played just to figure out how to get a city going successfully. Tehn i played attempting to get different types of cities - high population, very dense center, lots of subways, etc. Eventually i gave up on it, largely because the inability to build anything that resembled a reall city, due to the limited number of zone types, the tight zone proximity requirements, etc.
I have certainly played enjoyed Civ 2 aq great deal, and have played it vastly more than SC2000. OTOH I think of SC as more fruitful in its impact on gaming than Civ. Not only did SC inspire the City building genre, but Sid Meiers has indicated that it inspired Civ to a great degree as well. I certainly prefer the "Simcity-ish" aspects of Civ 2.
I never bought SC3000. I believe i am fortunate in that respect. Not that SC3000 was bad, but that the way Maxis has done incremental improvements, SC3000 was disappointing to a lot of SC2000 fans, and SC4 is disappointing to at least some SC3000 fans, but the combination of all the incremental improvements will make SC4 enough of a jump to satisfy an SC2000 fan.

I'll throw a plug in for Hitman2.The Metal Gear Solid of contract killing but since I never played MGS, I can't comment
Very interesting game.Open ended missions with MANY ways of completion.Quite abit different than anything I have played in past. The real aim is to avoid enemys rather than just mass extermination.Stealth is huge in this game. All manner of sneaky stuff..Oddly addictive and hours just seem to dissappear while playing.Beautiful graphics and a great musical score top off an intriguing storyline.

I thought Hitman had potential......but it had too many bugs and rough edges. I must have missed the release of Hitman2.....maybe I'll check it out.
