There is no point for these to be green and brown...

What always amuses me is that British army vehicles on public roads always drive around with their lights on as if other drivers won't see them because they are camouflaged. Perhaps someone should tell them it doesn't work that well!

I should imagine that their reponse time would have been increased dramatically if they all had to go to be resprayed beforehand.

HTF putting armoured vehicles in airports helps? What do they expect, a battalion of Al-Quaeda tanks rolling in from Jumbos?
It's just a pathetic attempt by the Brit goverment to get more support to the Iraq war.

No, the government aren't that cynical. they are very worried they considered closing Heathrow.
Tanks can blow up cars form long range I presume this is what they are therefore.

Look its their default colour for operations in Northern Europe.
It would be a waste of money to piant them grey just because they wern't in open fields.
The threat is apparantley from SAM missle presumbaly carried in car. The light tanks would be able to move quickly into a position where they can take out the vehicle

You can hit the man carrying them, not all of the troops are in tanks anyway

I just remembered that the last army to paint its tanks grey was the Wehrmacht (and they were made to stop in 1945). Perhaps painting British Army tanks grey would give the wrong impression - then again, perhaps not

Driving with lights on public roads is a military standard for most nations. Having driven an armored vehicle on a public thoroughfare myself, I can tell you most civilians aren't so quick to realize "hey, that's a tank" as you might suspect. Collisions between civilians and military vehicles are not totally unheard of.

Like Static stated, it's standard procedure to operate lights in all conditions unless some local law prohibits. And please don't take it for granted that people will automatically process the fact that there is a armoured veichle coming down the road. When you mix armour and a civilian highway it's always best to be extra careful. I'm sure those that have had to drive military vehicles on civilian roads can attest that bizzare things do happen.

I do appreciate why they do it, I just think it looks amusing. You are right about the collisions too. There was one a few years ago where a military truck killed a civilian after the soldier had been forced to drive virtually continuously for a couple of days (to simulate combat conditions). The authorities did try to prosecute for manslaughter but our laws on culpability whilst under orders on military service meant it failed.

I'm just sensitve about it because I once got my butt chewed in Panama by a two-star general for driving with the lights off.

yes, you should have grey army tanks.
but why are those tanks so small?
finnish army tanks are much bigger.
and how can those tanks move on roads with out ruining the asphalt-cover of the road?
