You could try buying PTW, because it is possible to play with 32 civs on one map in PTW.
Good luck!

I'm Sorry, I thought you did not have PTW, because you posted in the General Forum .
Well, in that case, I assume you mean playing a random map by setting all terrain editor options (Land Mass, Sort of Land, climate etc) to "Random".
Then I would not know how to do this, but maybe there is some option in the editor, that makes it possible to play with 32 civs on any type of map (though I would not advise 32 civs on a tiny map )
If you mean by random just the climate and sort of land and not the map size, then you'd probably just have to pick "Huge" from the world size options and in the civ selection screen you can see the amount of civs to the right of the leader head animation.
You can also try the "Load scenario" option from the main menu and look at the scenario properties. Some of the scenarios included in the PTW-disc provide you with a map and 32 civs to play gainst.
Anyway I wish you good luck and I hope you have a good computer, otherwise the loading between turns will be enormously long.
I dare not go above standard map on my Computer (P3500, 256Mb ram, 32Mb video card), because in the mid and end game loading between turns will be too long to give a fun game.

32 civs on a tiny map would be interesting

I'm Sorry, I didn't realize only vanilla Civ III players were allowed to post in the General Forum.

The one additional thing to mention is that you'll need to acquire (or create) a few more civs as PTW only comes with 24.

Are there som nice "extra civ packs" around? Last time i chacked there was no custom civ that were of the same standard as the firaxis civs.

Try Teturkhans mod. I havent played any other way since I first tried it. If you selct the 'Teturkhan (just mod)' option, you can play with over 30 civs on random maps, including "giga" size. Give it a shot, it rocks.

Teturkhan's - Cities mod
Definitely my favourite PTW mod (playing at Monarch level!! Although, I am busting a gut as the Indonesians just battling the barbs in Sulawesi and Northern Australia for control of my own realm, and I still haven't got iron by 1100BC! At least the world in general is off my back! 31 civs is a damn lot!
Only reason I chose the Indo's was to be out of the way of the big boys (India and China) and to have the Australian continent all to myself... Empty real estate in this game is worth it's weight in luxury recs. Hmm, but the Aborigine barbs are really bastards! Strange though that they have swordsmen.. shoulda been Woomera throwers ha-ha.
Hopefully I can build a hasty port in NW Aust and get that iron before things hot up in Eastasia. I only hope the Khymers, with whom I have signed a RoP, haven't heard that my scholars have unearthed an ancient Indonesian text prophesying that Greater Cambodia will one day be Indonesian! He he he.
I like the PTW (or is it the 1.21 patch?) diplomacy screen, and the leaderhead (F4) interface where you can mix'n'match leaders as need be at the touch of a button. For example, as Indonesia, at my stage in the game, it's good to have regional asian faces showing. I mean, what the hell do I care if the prince of Poland is even at war with me. He's a world away in this crowded game. It's a jungle out there!!
For players of this mod, though, BE WARNED!! There has ben substantial tampering with the food, shields and $$ that u get from bonus resources, and with the cost of modern weaponry. I think the designer erred when he/she made grassland more useless than plains. Check it out to see what I mean.
