Save Zoom In/Out Setting?
Whenever I restore a saved game the zoom setting that I prefer is "lost." This also seems to happen when certain status messages are displayed during the course of a turn.
Can anybody tell me how to set my preferred zoom setting so that it "sticks" permanently?
Thanks.

I'm afraid you can't save your zoom settings. Annoying, isn't it?

Only a minor bother. I type in XXX at the start of every session. Kind of makes me wonder if this game is suitable for kids.

Is that to enable the "Deidre dancing naked through the trees" bonus video?
What zoom do people play at? I always use standard zoom, once or twice I've zoomed out until the units become little squares for when I send my former army across my empire via magtube. But it really isn't usful. Would help heaps if the square had "F" for former or something.
Altough one nice thing is using max zoom out to watch the AI play itself, turns zip by in seconds.

While I agree that it's a "minor bother"--it's a constant, nagging, minor bother.
I play on a 19-inch monitor, starting from 1024x768 resolution (if that makes a difference), and I zoom out twice ("xx") to see more context.

Wanna really bugger your eyes? Try Ctrl+Z I have a 14" monitor and it just about makes me cross-eyed I think I'd throw up if I saw it on a 17" Actually, because of my poor eyesight, I use Shift+Z (standard zoom in) most of the time, but Shift+X (standard zoom out) when I need to see more. If I've been pod-popping and lose track of a field of pods (from losing my poppers to worms ), I X-out so I can find where to send the next poppers, but then Shift-Z back in for the regular stuff. Eventually I hope to have a larger monitor (and a faster processor, and a better video card, etc., etc. ), but a full desk and an empty wallet prevent that

You can set a "DirectDraw=0" option in the ini file so that you don't get a screen resize upon running the game. (I have my monitor set for a measly 1280*1024, but at no directdraw and standard zoom out I can see all of a tiny map, and individual units are still distinguishable.)
Even before finding out about this I played with standard zoom out once my empire expanded beyond one screen. (Unless I have a science park somewhere, even with a voodoo 3 card, 256Mb memory, a P3-550 (old I know) and the low res caviars my computer still croaks when trying to scroll a large science park. Esp if there are more units in the vicinity.) My gf's comp with a geforce2 card, 256Mb memory and a athlon 1200 processor and low res caviars still slows down when scrolling said energy park. Someone really fubared the 3d programming.

Lord Maxwell, thank you for your tip re: "DirectDraw=0"! That resulted in exactly the setting that I was looking for!
